richms: Both connections here dropped at the same time, and then have come back with better speeds.

B0 Traffic Type: PTM B0 Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 10342 B0 Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 28098
For Snap and

B0 Traffic Type: PTM B0 Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 3890 B0 Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 19832
for the bigpipe. Small drop on the upstream on that one but downstream is better

what are the rest of the line stats like though?

i have been noticing about 2am (at lest in my case anyway), chorus(Assumption as i see no applicable reason, maybe a firmware update in perpetration for 998 or something?) have been doing something with some DSLAMs, seem to be picking an area at a time, pushing something out that is dropping connections for a moment, those who reconnect faster are connecting on far lower snrs, simply due to where the noise is at at the time.

Yeah looks to be just that. Flatmate has 10 meg up back, but at 2dB,

Have asked him to post the spectrum from his fritz here to compare.

yep, as i suspected then.

had my line right the way down to 1.4dB for just over 2 weeks until someone tried to "fix" the internet (router dropped dhcp session on WAN and so the first thing resembling an internet providing device got tugged)

Surprisingly, even as a meter-watcher error rates and stability was totally acceptable.

what's acceptable error rate?  i'm on a lower snr atm from syncing at higher snr time, and it seemed to push my error rate up slightly.  although once i got a huge snr drop, and it didn't seem to affect my ping monitoring at all with lag spikes or loss or anyhting.  it was quite short lived though.  curiously upstream is very stable in snr, and both d1 and d2 change at the same time most of the time.  although unsurprisingly d2 is more stable than d1.

While I can't remember how to telnet into my router, I have noticed my speeds have increased this week. Normally I hover in the mid-high 20's, now in the mid-high 30's. Upload is stable around 9-10. Has Bayview, North Shore been upgraded?

post up your attenuation as it may be related to what seems to be chorus's work on cabinets prior to the actual upgrade.

i suspect the answer is no

How do I find that out? I can log into my router wirelessly but it's bridged to my modem and I can't get into that without a bit of a rigmarole involving standing on ladders with cables :)

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

it will be in the DSL menu on the modem

and you not just type the modems IP address into the address bar in a browser?

if it's difficult to add ip address to the interface that's bridging with your setup you can usually just run another ethernet cable lan to lan to access admin ui. (although that still sounds like standing on ladders if you can't add it to the bridged interface)

Yeah, there's no DLS menu on the router, and I'd need to plug into the modem manually. I'll try to have a go at that later - it's a bit fiddly.

Had a restart yesterday morning at about 145am ish, could have been sparks work here :http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=39&topicid=177915&page_no=1#1369075
or just another restart unrelated.

SNR is sitting at 3.6dB now.

That reads as Spark upgrading their Systems/Gear not chorus..

Chorus have also been pushing out some sort of an update, although theres no clear details on what.

Likely it does involve prep for 998, although it is certainly not the activation of 998.
I have heard mention that since the upgrade, the issue with fritzs (most commonly anyway) bricking the line when snr tweaking is Resolved now. Although its a bit of a hard one to "test" considering you risk breaking your line doing so.

Its been in the works for awhile, my dslam for example, dropped over a month ago now for this..

Enjoy the 3.6dB while it lasts :)

1 resync isnt going to do any harm, its multiple in short spans that flag a instable line...

i had a resync the other night, snr margin totally dropped off with the resync (maybe that's how resyncs show?)

syncing with lower snr margin now, and more errors, but seems fine, but i seem to have "weird" graphs now, compared to before.  there seem to be quite a few spikes in snr margin getting a couple of db more snr margin briefly and then back again.  also attainable upload has decreased a bit. (it's locked at 10 megabit anyway) snr up has dropped from around 36db to around 31db, so quite significant? (well for when 998 shift happens and it gets reduced spectrum, and capped less)
