Jase2985: yea i know but its caused me to resync soo...

just waiting now for 998

1 resync isnt going to do any harm, its multiple in short spans that flag a instable line...

i know that im just saying sparks work has caused more than likely caused the line to resync, and coincident or not it connected with a lower SNR. weather or not its anything to do with anything spark did or weather it was something chours has done who knows

for the work spark looks to be doing, all you would see is possibly your PPP drop, not your line.

mercutio: i had a resync the other night, snr margin totally dropped off with the resync (maybe that's how resyncs show?)

syncing with lower snr margin now, and more errors, but seems fine, but i seem to have "weird" graphs now, compared to before.  there seem to be quite a few spikes in snr margin getting a couple of db more snr margin briefly and then back again.  also attainable upload has decreased a bit. (it's locked at 10 megabit anyway) snr up has dropped from around 36db to around 31db, so quite significant? (well for when 998 shift happens and it gets reduced spectrum, and capped less)

ild say with everyones snrs all messed about, odd graphs will stick around till more settle out.. i noticed much the same thing.

then it must be a very big coincident that both dropped at the same time

quick question here. I believe my connection is not cabnetised and goes straight through to the exchange.
If this is the case do I have any hope for the 998 changes impacting the viability of VDSL at an approx 1.5km distance from the exchange or should I just forget about it and wait another 5 years for fibre in Torbay and then probably another 5 years after that for the fibre running past my street to be connected to my home?

Its all very frustrating..

ADSL rules - it's so unbelievably fast compared to a 300 baud acoustic coupler!

it's only 4 years for fibre to torbay.  1.5km i don't think you have much luck.  large amounts of torbay have cabinets.  except some of the south side iirc.

no one know if the range will be extended yet, they are still testing, you might get an answer after it gets rolled out to everyone

exactly this. Chorus reps on GZ have said they are looking at extending it, While other chorus techs have indicate limits that will exist after 998 rolls out which would counteract those distances (except for rural areas where crosstalk is low.)

From a technical point of view, considering the limits, No unless eceptions are made.

From a standpoint of Yes, they are using US0, they are looking to expand.. Yeah sure. it would go out a bit.

Realistically speaking, they could expand, extend vdsl coverage on 998 to boost speeds by maybe 2mbit each way, on a very borderline connection but i would be doubtful it would happen.

Wait till December, when it was indicate that would be finalized.

thanks guys, so from what I'm hearing it's is highly doubtful if any of these changes are going to get me anywhere closer to a satisfactory internet connection in the next 4 -5 years.

Please, if there is anyone out there that could motivate a change to the fibre roll-out plans to speed up the deployment to the mid part of Glamorgan Drive, Torbay or motivate for a cabinet to allow us at-least get the possibility of VDSL in the interim - it would be much appreciated. This whole thing is very frustrating.

i think vodafone do 4g around there?  4g should give decent speeds but tiny caps.  kind of wish 2degrees would do 4g in torbay/browns bay.

but i want it now too*

*says every gamer/geek out there

doesnt happen like that, someone has to be first and someone has to be last.  yes its frustrating but not much you or anyone else can do about it.

i think in a lot of these distance cases bonded vdsl is probably the best way to go, but atm it's cross-prohibitive.

from what i under verizon vdsl in the us will just give the same pricing and use more than one pair if necessary to meet a reasonable service quality level.  so if links do 15/4 or something, then have two and get 30/8.

You would be better off moving house if it means that much to you, because there is no chance of what you are asking for.

haha. I wonder how many of these comments are coming from people who already have access to VDSL and Fibre?

I have to say though, I don't think its an unreasonable expectation for someone in the middle of an urbanised area with fibre running virtually everywhere except in the section of street that I live in, to be given access to VDSL. Heck there is even a school on Glamorgan Drive where my kids go which must be fibred up.
You don't need to be a geek/gamer to understand that a very poor upload speed on ADSL (about 0.7Mb/s) prevents reliable Skype video calls to family overseas and makes it very hard to use any cloud sync technology for photos/videos etc.
4G doesn't cut it due to the data cost - I'm on unlimited Bigpipe plan currently.

4g should be able to fix your video calling issues.  but yeah cloud sync isn't really an option.  even 10 megabit is very slow for syncing.  but with 0.7 megabit it's really hard to even sync in background without it affecting the connection negatively.  even with doing prioritisation etc.

i don't think your expectations are unreasonable.  but i don't think you have any chance of improving the situation on your own, and are stuck with what's available.

even getting two adsl connections would still leave you with sub-par performance.

with skype video calling i find it can be a problem with vdsl even depending on what the other users connection is like.  and i find that audio calling is a lot more stable.  i suppose australia is like your situation, so no surprises there.  video calling to the US tends to be pretty stable.

Nobody's disagreeing with the fact it's frustrating, but there really is no chance for what you're asking.
