gabesmith: Still early days but I have noticed a drop in the Remediable Errors (FEC) rates which is a good sign. Unrecoverable errors (CRC) and (ES) are still 0 as with prior to this change.

Is there anyway I can speed up the DLM process to get me off 15ms latency and INP 2.0? Would requesting a port refresh help this?

It might do - most people seem to start on DLM 6 which is 8ms.

Well a call to snap to request a port refresh later, and I am now on DLM-1. Here is hoping the CRCs stay under control and that DLM is kind to me.....

Thanks all for the advice on the home cabling, I guess I have learnt the hard way how important this is with VDSL.

Well things were going well until about the 9th day of DLM training when my CRC errors spiked up from avg 2 CRCPM to a large number causing a re-sync down to DLM-2.

After further phone line debugging (using a cordless phone connected to the master line in the house), I have found the grey Telecom/Chorus post thing on the street outside my house introduces scratchy/crackling noise onto the phone line when moved only slightly. This is real problem when you have wind (Wellington) and cars trucks coming past shaking

I have raised a fault through Snap for chorus to come and re-do the gel cap connections in the grey post thing.

Hopefully this will get my line sorted.

a 2 CRCPM shouldnt cause issue with DLM-1.. are there massive spikes when this scratchy noise hits?

To be honest, if its causing issues with phones, likely hood is it's going to cause issues for broadband aswell. Good spotting on that one dude.

Yeah it was going along fine with 1-2 CRCPM then on the 9th day of the DLM learning/trial period, I got a series of large CRC spikes with some SNRM losses and some re-syncs which kicked me down to DLM-2

Re CRC spikes with scratchy noise - hard to tell as I am naked VDSL. Testing the phone line using a phone can only be done when not using VDSL for me.

in terms of a spike, you should see it on the graphs...

SNR loss and disconnections would have been the factor indeed..

attack it from the SNR loss and disconnections with chorus, hopefully then they will deal with the scratchy noise.

Update - the chorus tech called by today and fixed the dodgy connection in the grey post thing outside my house and surprise surprise, my CRC rate has now fallen to practically zero. Time for another port refresh and hopefully a long stay on DLM-1 and ever hopeful of 17a one day.....

Damn....and i thought my spike of 50K yesterday was bad...but 4,294,970,000 is a bit worse

compared to the 0.1 CRCPM it normally is, yep.. i blame the roadworks just down the road, wouldnt be surprised if they hit something and set off errors.

im just surprised there was no loss of signal through all that..

I think if you look at the raw data for that point it'll be showing a negative value?  I've seen something similar before, and the raw data was negative, which is a clearly stupid value for number of errors. ;-)

As to how they get to the large value from a negative value -- 2s complement signed negative value => 2s complement unsigned HUGE value.

My Fritz is in dire need of a reboot.  It's claiming phantom resyncs and thinks that SNRM has been at 7 all day, when I know it hasn't budged from 12.

yea, im sure its not real errors, but found it amusing none the less.

flatmate unplugged the fritz or something the other day, its been a little dodgy since then :/

Need to get my wiring sorted, every time it rains my CRC errors go through the roof and I get loads of resyncs :-(
This weekend I had 3 resyncs and got bumped down to dlm-2 from dlm-1

Interesting, my line has been really good now after the chorus grey post wiring join fix. It even survived the earthquake on Friday with no CRC errors! I have noticed in the last 24 hours that my SNRM has dropped by 2db from 12db and has stayed on 10db now. Now only getting an occasional 4 CRC's per hour so still really good. I am hoping that this is DLM testing my line. Still on DLM-2 for now....

Is a SNR of 14 still okay? I looked at my line just now and for the past 22 hours I had a SNR of 14...
It does look like it dropped back to 13 in the past hour but I would like to know what triggers the SNR to go up and down. When I started out on VDSL my SNR was 11-12 then 1 day it went stable at 13.... now 14... It feels like its slowly crawling up.

In other news CRC per minute: 0....

What version of firmware are you on mikenzb?

Are your performance/stability line settings set to 'max performance'?
