sidefx: IS that question directed at anyone, or just a general question? :)
When on DLM1 my line never resyncs - and that's what you want. The few times I've dropped off DLM1 it's dropped me 2 DLM profiles, then it takes 4-5 weeks to return to DLM2 (1 resync) then a couple of days to return to DLM1 (another resync) Those are the only resyncs I generally see.
Paul1977: When Chorus came out they installed the splitter at the jack point rather than at the demarcation point, so I'm wondering if the internal wiring is to blame.
Talking to Snap it seems it will be a mission to get Chorus to come back to do it properly, so I thought it would be easier just to do it myself; but have a couple of questions:
1. Is the high latency and the fact that I am on DLM-7 likely to be due to the internal wiring?
2. Since I am on VoIP, I understand I am best to not use the splitter and just run a single CAT6 straight from the demarcation point into the back of the router; and disconnect any old wiring from the demarcation point. Is this correct?
Paul1977: Chorus guy said he had run out of the proper housings, so it is just a little black box sitting on top of the old phone jack, he then used an existing run of CAT6 that was in the wall feeding to my patch panel for the VDSL. So I believe it is now - Demarc to filter over old cable (20m or so), then filter to patch panel over CAT6 (another 10m or so), then patch panel to router.
I believe I must have started on a better DLM, as immediately after the connection going to speedtest.net to Snap Christchurch gave me a 6ms ping. It has gotten progressively worse and is now 35ms.
Day of connection:
Today:
Here are screencaps from my stats and spectrum tabs from today:
I'm going to go ahead with running the CAT6 straight from the demarc to the router this weekend anyway, as even if this isn't the cause I figure it can't hurt.
Thanks again

Just how long has it been since you went to VDSL? It is odd that you're still on DLM-7 - there should have been some change by now. Have there been any resyncs at all?
odd that you started on DLM-1, your specturm actually looks pretty nice.
no harm in running the cat6 all the way if you have the resources to do so, will likely improve it, few people with patch panels for their dsl have seen odd things happen, might be worth giving it a run with that variable taken out if possible too..
looking at your error rate, you should defiantly be due to be moving back down profiles..
once rewiring, have your DLM reset, see what happens..
