&*^%...just lost my post. Here's the abbreviated version:

I'm new to Fritzbox so can't compare to older firmware, but can say the following about 5.51:

- SNR via GUI does not work. Change it, shows as changed after reboot, but no change.
- INP via GUI does not work. Change it, reboot, back to where it started
- My attenuation is 7, yet I'm down to DLM4 before errors have stabilized. Others seem to have far better results at this distance. Cat cable straight to modem from splitter.

Biggest improvement was when INP went to 1, so I'm hoping if I can set INP at this end, I may get back to 0 latency DLM. If that means older firmware, any reason I shouldn't try that?

highly unlikely your firmware is the reason for your line issues, however, its worth a downgrade and a test right?

telnet service, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telnet) the only way to tweak it, where i pulled all the extra information from and so on

If you fix INP to 1 you will never get onto DLM-1 as this has an INP of 0.

What's your spectrum looking like?

In other news, it's been nearly 2 months since my odd SNR drop which I thought might have been a 17a precursor test. However, after an entire month of no SNR tweak or resyncs, my SNR has failed to drop below 10 and there has been no other odd SNR behavior.

I am now going to run at -2.0db which will give me a sync rate slightly above 50mbit, but still with very error rates, to see if that causes any changes.

that a shame, was really looking like you were due for 17a.. ill see what my line looks like after the linecard is fixed, but i was looking to drop my SNR to -6db, which would also hit close to 50Mb :D

yep, while the DLM-1 latency would be nice, it was clear thats not gonna be happening for a bit, so if ima sit on the 8ms profiles, may aswell push them right?

besides, im hardly getting in 4 hours a week of tasks inwhich ild notice the latency currently, and with a few more tunes done to my dedi im hitting 5MB/s from NL on single threads consistent which aint bad at all!

Fair enough. Just don't let the CRCs get too high if you want to get to DLM-1 eventually.

OK maybe I misunderstood tweaking from this end versus their end. I guess I had in my head that if I set INP to 1, and they did as well via DLM then that was INP of 2. Seems kinda odd that me setting it via this end controls the whole connection, that seems to be an irrecoverable loop to me if they are trying to set, and I am also trying to set. I was hoping that if 1 is needed to keep the connection stable, then I could set it to one, and that could get me onto a DLM with no added INP (i.e. potentially DLM1 again).

INP takes some time, so I think setting INP to 1 will prevent DLM from setting latency to 0ms. So DLM-1 would not be possible. I'm not certain about this though and no one has really experimented with the INP setting.

And so, the frustrations continue, tech finally turns up just as I leave, so i come racing back to find a tech listening for a dialtone. Surprised to be told its a VoIP line and a vdsl connection regardless of the notes on their iPhone stating vdsl...

Wasn't equipt with the correct equipment to deal with vdsl ...but said the jumpers were wrong in the cabinet? Apparently toying with snr can change your jumpers guys, watch out for that.

Leaves the question, was it just chance my connection has worked all this time?

I just happened to tweak the snr as the jumpers were changed? Or instead of fixing the port was it actually broken more?

Bit of a vent, bit of insight to the issue for others to be awear of.

Can someone please explain how I tweak my SNR on my Fritz 7340 with the latest firmware with MacOSX.. I have a naked connection and get lost at this Telnet jazz.

Also if I am on DLM1, can my throughput increase any higher than it currently is if DLM initiates a resync?

Yes the sync rate can vary quite a bit from sync to sync. It's not a good idea to do a lot of resyncs trying to get a better rate though, as DLM will drop you to a lower level if you resync too much.

Decided to downgrade the firmware as that seemed to be the easy way out.
Downloaded the old firmware from AVM website and flashed it to Fritz.
Applied a initial tweak of -60 and went from sync speed 37kbps to 45kbps.
I havent had a resync for months forced by DLM and have asked Snap why but they don't want to know and feed me the same bullsh-t everytime I ring. So maybe this will get the ball rolling with resyncs.
