SamF: AFAIK vectoring only works up to 1-200m as well, so even less reason for them to do it.

looks to be effective over a fair bit more distance.

Huh, OK I stand corrected. The material I read was obviously incorrect.

To be quite honest, vectoring is a great idea on paper, no so great in reality. I believe Voyager can do it though (specialty item though, and not everyone can get it). If your really after the better speeds just get bonded VDSL (two VDSL lines rolled into one effectively, once again voyager can offer this, aswell as snap etc).

Virtues aside, I doubt that anyone's going to invest much in vectoring at this stage, I expect all investment is going into fibre, which is where it should go really. Unless of course enabling vectoring is either really cheap, or just a software upgrade, then maybe they'll do it.

Those graphs must be for high quality lines. I'm 850M from the exchange and am currently syncing at 19.5/3.2mb. The fastest it has ever synced is 21.5/5.2mb, but it didn't last long.
I wish there was a way to decrease the SNR on the upstream.

Since it looks like the government isn't able/willing to help Chorus much over their funding problems with the UFB/RBI rollout since the commerce commission's UBA pricing decision I really doubt Chorus will be investing in anything except the UFB/RBI work for a good few years.

Just got VDSL set up last Weds, speed is pretty good (24 down, 9 up) but the attenuation seems much higher than what I expected, since the pre-install check Snap did said the attenuation was 3-5 dB.

The spectrum also seems to drop off very quickly at the higher frequencies, and the SNR seems poor.

I'm wondering if there are some issues with the wiring, but I wanted to check here to see if these stats are normal/acceptable.
Don't know how far away the cabinet is, I might go for a walk tomorrow and look for it.

Hmm, yeah your spectrum graph isn't looking too hot there buddy...

How far are you from the cabinet? What speeds were you getting on ADSL?

We're about 6-700m from the cabinet. On ADSL I was getting 15 down and 0.7 Mb/s up.

In the same boat as you Ronnie, was getting around the same on ADSL as you.

My spectrum looks fairly similar to yours however I'm syncing less than you currently on my VDSL connection.
Still yet to get a sparky around to run cable directly from the ETP to where I want the gear set up.
I'm hoping it is the wiring that will improve my sync speeds.
How old is the subdivision you are living in, my one is around 5 years old so surely the copper wouldn't be so substandard?

We're not in a subdivision, its a lifestyle block out in helensville. The house is about 20 years old. The VDSL jack is wired straight from the splitter with cat5. The ETP is a bit of a mess of joints tho, maybe that's not helping much.

Sounds like your ETP needs a bit more work. If that's sorted tho and there's still an issue it could be a line problem, at which point it's time to engage snap to take a look. But definitely get your ETP sorted first tho.

Seems we are getting somewhere.... I'm located out in Parakai. Even though my cabinet is 500 odd metres from me, we are both connected to the same Helensville exchange possibly?
Best to let the guys on here fill in the blanks if possible.
Maybe it's just the way it is out here and there is no room for improvement until UFB makes it out here.

Perhaps there are others reading this thread from out here in Helensville that can provide a look at their spectrums.
