Isn't FritzBoxLog able to grab the electrical line length stats? I looked at the output but can't see it.

BMarquis:

We have a number of conditions that must be met for your line to be switched to a 17a Spectrum profile.
If your line is on the 17a spectrum profile, but the spectrum between 8Mhz and 17Mhz is not being used, I'd be looking at your CPE. it shouldn't report 17a unless the DSLAM is providing that, and we run 8b and 17a on independant profiles.

As for the question of 'what allows a line to be on 17a':
The current bandplan is 8b (goes without saying!)
The line is shorter than 350 meters, which is an electrical length in the 5530 Network Analyser of DLM is in operation on that line
A Bandplan switch hasn't occured in the last 90 days (to stop bouncing between 8b+17a, while still allowing re-evaluation as/when required)

Very interesting. So error rate is not a factor. I suspected as much. But I think there are a lot of people around here who are under 350m but haven't seen 17a. I wonder if Chorus have enough logging to be able to tell if 17a has been tried on a particular line.

WIP, but yes.

i find it extremely interesting, as i pointed out in that thread, the distances he has given are far longer than we have seen. (again though, taking into account different frequencies)

yep.. exactly my thought trait.

while errors dont seem to be accounted on, a stable line is accounted on. which to some respects, errors can then be counted.

perfect timing guys. while your speaking of 17a I finally made the jump last night, oddly enough it happened around 05:40am

I did get kicked down to dlm-2 awhile back but I'm not going to into depth about about that.

I'm more or less happy now syncing at 66mbps.

Still more errors on a good clean line.

I would have said so myself, but that got disproved when I hooked a customer up myself and they jumped straight onto a 17a profile?

this would be the change im talking about. im starting to get the feeling that profile switch counters arent part of the port reset..

That was about when the switch happened for me too. It's obviously on a different schedule to DLM changes.

So what your saying is it is possible that, you must have a stable and consistant connection which hasn't had a DLM profile change in the last 90 days for you to possibly switch from 8b to 17a?

Were they initially connected on 8b and immediately changed to 17a or initially connected on 17a? If it was the later then that's not inconsistent with a 90 day minimum gap between changes.
