nigelj:
sbiddle: EUBA also features maximum attenuation figures, something that doesn't exist with UBA. In essence you will only get a EUBA connection if Chorus determine that you will get a adequate quality connection.

Now that is interesting, so essentially it's similar to how Chorus look at VDSL connections, any idea what the magic number for EUBA is, or is it more closely guarded secret than the VDSL attenuation?

Neither are secrets. Both have been posted on here in numerous threads recently. EUBA maximum attenuation depends on whether it's a EUBA0, EUBA 40, EUBA90 or EUBA180

I've yet to see an EUBA connection be rejected due to adequate quality - not saying it doesn't happen, it may just be rare. I've successfully provisioned EUBAs with attenuations of 30db+ without issue.
The only times I've seen EUBA rejected when there is only an ATM backhaul from the DSLAM, but this is usually detected through the Prequal system prior to ordering.

CUnl what ISP do you work for?
how can I get an EUBA connection?
I've changed from Telecom to Orcon and I'm still getting exactly the same poor speeds, half the speed of ADSL1.

What are my options.

EUBA isn't your issue. Both Orcon and Telecom use EUBA for the vast majority of connections, as does virtually every other ISP.

Yoour issue as discussed elsewhere is clearly something in your modem, port or wiring.

I'm BUBA on old Telecom gear, I thought if it was EUBA and another ISP's newer gear it would help!

I've tried 2 modems, so it's not that.
My internal wiring hasn't changed, so I highly doubt it's that.
I try and get a port check done.

Internal wiring is statistically the cause of most speed related issues. Just because nothing has changed doesn't mean it's not at fault. Over time issues such as corrorion can easily occur, and if you have more than one jackpoint in the home then it is impacting your DSL signal by causing reflections on the line - by how much depends entirely on your setup. Plug in filters can't fix this, hence the reason why a master filter should IMHO be mandatory for every xDSL install.

You don't necessarily need him, but you need to look at your wiring to eliminate that first. A basic isolation test isn't hard to perform.

Basic isolation test done.
Both phone jacks reporting the same slow sync.

How do we test the wiring from outside my house to the exchange?

You firstly need to eliminate your house wiring, ie disconnect everything and wire the modem directly into the incoming cable.

I've already done the isolation test.

I think you should start a new thread, so as to allow the discussion (valuable as it is) to continue on the original topic.

I work for an ISP called Unleash :)

There may be a reason you're on BUBA such as DSLAM ability etc, but no harm in asking your ISP to upgrade to EUBA if possible.
The upgrade process is pretty painless for the end user - a little work by the ISP, but nothing painful.
Have a chat to your ISP, see what they can do - if they're not going to be helpful, find an ISP that is (just don't confuse unhelpful with unable - they're limited to what Chorus allows them to do remember)

A quick prequal will tell what capabilities you have available to your address - and will also give you an idea on what speeds you should expect. (they're only estimations however, not binding).

Give sbiddle's advice a go, get your internal wiring checked/upgraded - it's worth it, and $150 well spent.
If that doesn't yield any markable improvements, try the ISP to upgrade.

You may still find after all the efforts that it may all be in vein, as the circuit between the house and the cabinet just isn't capable of getting any faster speeds - so don't get your hopes set too high ;)

It's also probably worth taking this discussion back to two existing thread that trakman already has going rather than taking this thread completely off topic.

It's interesting to hear that people are finding the EUBA + Prequal reliability OK.  In my experience, the prequal may be sweet as, but then once the order has been accepted, it's subsequently rejected saying EUBA not available.  I've had this happen on more than one occasion, in fact for testing, we eventually had to switch my own line over after attempting three other staff and having rejects.  They were all in different areas.

Has anyone else had this experience?  I'll try to grab some really rough non-sensitive stats when I've got time.
