Grant17 you need to stop kidding yourself. According to you, Telecom can do no right, and Telecom should just close down tomorrow. But then I guess this is what I should have expected from someone who seems to have their head right up Vodafone’s / The Governments (and possibly other ISPs) proverbial.

Of course I'm not saying Vodafone is a bad company, in fact as a competitor I think they do a great job. However that doesn’t mean the world starts and ends with what you say, or think for that matter.

Another set of rights worth checking out if your looking to write a suitably threatening legal letter are those under the Consumer Guarantees Act (which extends a number of automatic guarantees to all consumers in relation to both goods and services like Xtra broadband)

But that only applies if xtra misrepresented their product, which they didn't. There has been no breach of the FTA or CGA and we certainly would have heard by now if there was....

Mmm well I would tend to agree with you re: the connection management features, unleashed, xtraordinary, non 7.6 etc ... issues as these are all fairly clearly flaged in the advertising / were never promiced to begin with, or are (to my mind at least) clearly bluster / slogans / advertising speak as opposed to actual substative reprentations about the service. Still dont know if we would have heard about a breach of the FTA regarding the recent 'unleashed' plans just yet as (atleast to the best of my understanding) to commerce commission logs all complaints made and refers back to these logs when assessing whether a new complaint should be followed up meaning that your unlikely to hear about issues people have the second the first person writes in.

Re: the CGA: I think this is a useful tool to know about - as it can do things like impose an obligation on the supplier of your service to remedy a problem (ie. a breach one of the guarentees) within a reasonable time. Sure you would expect your ISP to do this anyway, however, where it gets more interesting is that if they fail to do this a number of other remidies become available. Remedies like cancelation of the contract (without incurring a $90 breaking your year long plan fee) or seeking out another person to fix your problem (shifting to another ISP?) and then charging the cost of the shift back to your original service provider. Generally you exercise your rights under the CGA by contacting your service provider and sorting the matter out between the two of you or failing that at the disputes tribunal. Man dosent have to pay the fee for breaking his contract with telecom isnt really the sort of stuff that will make it to the headlines, however, I certainly wouldnt rule out the CGA on this basis.

Clearly you don't have anything worthwhile to add to the debate on this issue, so you have felt it necessary to resort to vitriol instead. If or when you have a well-reasoned argument to present instead of a knee-jerk reaction, perhaps then I will be prepared to listen to you again.

To be honest I have had enough of many people saying only negative things about organisations such as Telecom.

And I have said it once, and will say it again, but from what I can tell from your posts, "Telecom can do no right".

But I'll stop here, as I dont want to feed the troll anymore.

Have you heard the saying: "If you can't stand the heat then get out of the kitchen?".

Telecom only have themselves to blame for generating such huge amounts of ill-feeling pretty much right across the political and socio-economic spectrum in NZ.

No, you're not correct in that assessment. There was a time when I was proud to be a Telecom customer and I was even a shareholder at one stage! Till the rot set in and I could see that Telecom were just out to milk as much profit as possible from their NZ customers and give peanuts back in return.

In 1999, when ADSL was introduced, we were one of the first countries in the world to have it. That was cutting-edge stuff back then. But the momentum hasn't been maintained in recent years.

Wayne Boyd, the new chairman of the board is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, he can come in with a new broom and sweep out a lot of the people at Telecom who have been responsible for perpetuating this approach of shafting their customers and making it well nigh impossible for competitors to make even the most pitiful profit out of broadband.

A few days ago, I challenged you to explain your assertion that:

There is hardly any profit in broadband, but only in dialup (or words to that effect). I wanted you to explain why that should be so, as it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. You haven't responded, so I guess you don't have any reasoned argument to make on that subject either.

What happened to those rules that you so self righteously declared you abide by? There is absolutely no need for this behaviour. We are all so sick of it.
