Looks like that's a rather fresh looking cabinet, and the Chorus SAT tools isn't 100% up to date by any means, especially if there was no existing coverage in the area.

I guess the OP is back to his RSP

Looking at the cabinet schedule excel file is always the best bet - this lists every planned cabinet along with the date with any changes. This file will probably list the RFS date of this new cabinet also.

Well I am a tad confused as this goes against everything that I have been told from Chorus, Telecom and through the RBI. All the info has said that Vodafone have the contract for RBI coverage in our area and yet you seem certain that the cabinet is going to have fibre fed into it. Not that I have seen the side of the road being dug up for fibre.

The area the OP is talking about is Parau - West Auckland. Cabinet TGN/F is currently under construction. Alas no plans yet for fibre to roll out further to Huia. There is a RBI tower planned for the area, but will likely be on South-head. A few people were pushing to have the tower in Huia - which would have meant fibre into Huia; but the practicalities of South-head I think outweighed this.

The RBI isn't just wireless, it's also got ~1000 new cabinets, and in many areas the wireless coverage will overlap the xDSL coverage.

The Chorus SAT and RBI sites list this cabinet so you'll get a good idea of the coverage footprint from the SAT site.

It is a shame for Huia, but can understand why the mast is going to be on South Head - more coverage.

Under the RBI programme, we're rolling out around 1000 new fibre fed cabinets in harder to reach areas to put 57% or rural customers in reach of 5Mbps or faster fixed line broadband - we've also just updated the RBI mapping tool on our fibre map - so you can see all of our RBI coverage plans: http://www.chorus.co.nz/fibre-rollout-map.

Ah glad I found this. My partner's family lives in this area, was wondering when they were going to be able to get broadband.

I'm guessing since this is part of the RBI that the prices will be greater than in areas closer to town? Don't think they'll be happy about that!

That will be the interesting part. Telecom says that there is only one rate for all of Auckland excluding some areas on their map, Parau is not one of the excluded areas.

No, prices will be the same as urban, as this is fixed line broadband.

Copper prices are the same no matter where in the country you are, the exception is POTS voice services in Wellington, Kapiti and Auckland.

This is something I fundamentally disagree with - I believe a rural/urban split should exist and rural areas should pay more for their services.

As an urban user I'm having to subsidise rural users by way of the TSO levies imposed on service providers that I use - this is something I strongly object to (not the levy, but the subsidies).

For many years the rural community havent  been subsided by anyone as the options were limited to satellite or locally created wireless. It is true that with the RBI the tax payers will be subsidising the rural community but then you urbanites get better access to public transport, sewerage works etc. I think in the end it probably equals out.
Anyhow I dont count Parau as being particularly urban when only 25 kms from Auckland CBD.
