freitasm: Just finished installing the wireless modem/router here at the farm. The parents-in-law are very happy, and DSL actually is working very well, seeing that they are on the other side of the hill, further away from the exchange - beyond the 4Km I'd say.

Installation was easy, although I was annoyed by the "step-by-step guide" to setup the router They should have a "Skip this section to the Advanced users" option, but all worked ok.

Nice work indeed.

Check the firmware on the modem. When I got this model last year it was running on v1 or something similarly ancient, and performed like a pig.

Latest firmware was v3 or similar, and the overall experience - once I got past the awful dlink firmware software - was quite good.

If you think you had it bad, try getting a phone line and adsl connected, with the condition that you only want the phone line if the line will be suitable for dsl, in a rural area so about $500 installation costs as well. Telecom are useless when it comes to that.
