VDSL on DLM1 gives marginally better latency for me than ADSL with interleaving off (5ms vs 16ms IIRC) - If you have interleaving on on your ADSL line I think any of the VDSL 8ms interleaving profiles would be better too and the 1ms profile much better. But, given that 150ms I think is where people start to notice latency issues for VOIP it's not a huge difference; every bit helps I suppose. Other than that I wouldn't see much advantage for VOIP and VDSL.

Having said that I love my VDSL! It really really shines on the uploads - On my line it's gone from 1mbps vs 9.4 (in terms of a "real" example uploading to youtube I now get 4-5mbps vs well under 1 with ADSL - and torrents and local uploads are even better getting pretty much the same as what speedtest gives)

Also very impressed with snap! who signed up with to get VDSL.

I can have the autoupload stuff on the phone on, pushing photos all up to dropbox, google plus etc and not notice it.

on adsl everytime I took a pic the internet would grind to a slow mess while things were uploading.

Also halved my pings to my webhost once it settled on dlm1. That makes a huge difference with retardedly inefficiant protocols like FTP and rsync.

What's different about VDSL that you fell is important?

(And please understand that I'm interested in your comments, I'm not suggesting that you're not 100% right. I have a VoIP client on ADSL currently and their service is not working well, so I'm very interested to know what you think might make an improvement if I switch them to VDSL).

I think its a matter of if you are doing things at the same time. With VDSL2 I can download a file at 15Mbit and play a game or use voip at the same time without it being an issue.

This is mainly helpful if you have multiple users on the connection. With VDSL2 whatever one user does (within reason) is unlikely to affect the voip or internet access of the other users. If you have only 1Mbit or less upload with ADSL, it is easy for one user to max out that upstream bandwidth which will impact on other users.
