Strange...

Does anyone here know what the MTU is safely changed to. Im aware it shouldnt deviate far from 1500 if at all but Im at my wits end here and am willing to try anything to get it going.

Do you have AV running on your comp? I've come across a number of "slow" UFB connections where the computer couldn't handle the speed because it was bogged down with no ram or AV doing real time scanning. Try turning off the AV and do a speedtest again

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

MTU needs to be set to the MTU that your ISP is configured for.

You haven't said if you have connected you Genius and what speeds you get with that.

D1g1talis, I'm the original poster. No haven't got any fix yet but I haven't got around to logging a fault with Orcon either.
My original post was to find if this router model was up to the task as we were given this router by Orcon when on 30/10 and later upgraded to 100/50.
My fault is definitely NOT "slow Orcon" like others on geekzone. If I set up my laptop with dhcp on vlan10 I get ~80mbps whereas with the srp I'm getting more like ~45mbps.
I'm thinking it might be a subtle thing like routing between vlans is slower but I haven't looked into it enough.

FYI we have static IP range with a bunch of servers. I had planned to simply run ontethernetswitchservers but turns out the ufb service will only work with 1 mac address. So necessitating the use of the srp.

The srp521 definitely has performance issues with 100mbit - even Cisco will admit that (CPU isn't grunty enough). Anyone saying they haven't had problems obviously hasn't tested sufficiently.

Having said that, the new revision is a lot better - these have a black front as opposed to the bluey one. See which one you have and if you can get it swapped. The black ones still won't do 100 meg at smaller packet sizes but can with large packets (which is usually good enough for your average user)

The 521's do have good throughput for everyday traffic.

But yes as you do say they're not going to cope if you start putting small packets through, and that's pretty much the same for anything. I work with a lot of gear that can easily cope with routing close to Gigabit speeds with 1518 byte frames, but fire 64 byte frames at it as an example and you'll get 1/20 of that.

yep - you have to pay quite a bit for a Cisco router that can handle 100M, in fact the router Cisco position for a 100M WAN circuit is the 3925 which is about 8k...

that's probably a very conservative positioning, but still you get an idea of the price/performance gap
