(Not totally sure how much can be done with SmartTV though?) Definitely would like to have more data for online radio streaming at least.
I'm tempted by Slingshot's new $69 phone + rollover broadband plan. I'm not sure what I'd do with a 500GB Mega account though. The one thing that gives me pause is reading poor reviews of Slingshot. However, they were almost all >1 year old, so has Slingshot upped their game recently?
If not that, I guess I'd probably go for Vodafone's 80GB naked broadband + their cheapest phone contract for the $30 discount. So $94 for 80GB + a phone contract.
I'm still concerned about guests using too much data. But maybe a simple solution might be to change to an unlimited or ultra-high data plan in high periods and forget about trying to cap it?

If you're going to have a cap you could get naked ADSL2 from Fyx(.co.nz), $55.30/mo + 30c/GB. That's $79.30/mo if you use 80GB in a month, less if you use less.
I'd say get the slingshot, all their plans have rollover don't they? That way you will end up with truckloads of data from the months you are not there.

What I'm concerned about is a guest using a truckload of data and incurring substantial additional charges. If there is a relatively easy way to cap daily data use to something high enough that no-one will ever reach it unless they're downloading a huge amount, I'd like it. But if it'd cost $100 or something, it would probably be easier to just eat the costs if they arise, or increase data in months that it's let out a lot.
tonyhughes: Bear in mind the raw cost to an ISP for doing this (connect for a month or two then disconnect) (actual costs from Chorus, actual wages for call centre and provisioning and billing staff, let alone overheads) is probably much much more than the charges you will pay. You might achieve this once, but don't be surprised if any ISP is not keen to do it once, or again in the future.
as i understand, if the connection is already hooked up then they can activate the connection electronically and no manual labour needed.
