Your DECT handsets just need to be GAP compliant. The FritzBox is probably one of the best, if not the best residential, all in one router out there right now. The telephony stuff in it is pretty well featured for an all in one. The wifi is really good too.

To test your 2talk account download either Bria or 3CX and enter your registration details.

A quick google search tells me that they are :)

Excellent, cheers - I'll have a tinker with one of those :)

JEDENZED: i.e call my new 028 number and have my iphone ring... Is this what you meant by "if you have a smartphone... have a play"?

Yeah that's exactly what I mean. As chevrolux says above get some software on your phone and you can recieve\make calls through it over wifi. Android seems to have more options for this than iphone, but either should work.  Be aware that the experience will be better with a Frtizbox and proper handsets though :)  I think the makers of the Fritzbox offer an iphone softphone app that integrates really well with the Fritzbox, so added bonus.

Current best SNAP naked offering seems to be 150GB for $110... Do they have any referral codes that you know of?

No sorry, I'm on an old plan and also get 25GB free per month through a teched offer so not the standard plan.

sidefx: Yes, even if they're not in use, additional jackpoints will degrade VDSL (though how much will vary depending on the state of house wiring, number of jackpoints, etc)

If you're going naked VDSL, probably best to just ensure the incoming pair is connected direct to a single jackpoint and VDSL modem plugged straight into that with no other jackpoints connected - a master filter is then not required.

For the wiring, probably no need to get it done through snap for $400 - I think Coffeebaron on these forums might cover\visit Hamilton for a more reasonable rate; maybe worth contacting him.

(I took that cabinet location from this spreadsheet on the chorus website, so hopefully accurate :) http://www.chorus.co.nz/file/3194/existing_distribution_cabinet_list_may_2012.xlsx)

Sure thing, flick me an email / PM with some contact details and I'll sort your wiring. Special Geekzone price.

Will do coffeebaron thanks very much for getting in touch! Wondering about logistics, I move into the new house 2 weeks from today - do I need you to visit before I get in touch with SNAP to hook me up or after? Want to keep internet access downtime to an absolute minimum(hello, my name's JEDENZED and I'm a netaholic...); what course of action would your experience tell you I should take?

Also, sidefx - what a legend... I'm very grateful to you for all of the time and valuable insight you've shared with me over the last few days - thank you so much! It looks like I'm going to go with the SNAP and 2talk options that you have extolled the virtues of... VERY excited to get some really nice transfer rates at home... I loves me some speed... Yell

Cheers guys!

Order from Snap first and let me know activation date. If they ask about wiring etc, just advise that you have a tech doing the wiring etc once your connection is active. I can also help with VoIP setup, and optionally can re-inject back into phone wiring.

Cheers

Roger that.

Sounds great, cheers. No idea what the second part of what you said means but no doubt you can explain it to me once I'm all set up with SNAP and ready to use your services :)

How much lead time do you need for a visit to Hamilton?

2-3days would be good

Re-inject, basically means you will be able to plug phones back into existing jack-points.
