Why is Telecom instead investing in Australia where it faces not just an aggressive incumbent but an equally hardcore regulator that has gone way further than the NZ equivalent has? That's a cool $400-$500 million being sunk into Powertel. Meanwhile, we're still waiting for ADSL2+ here.
Can we just stop and think for two seconds here....

But Telecom are investing - the problem is their whole future is based around their NGN which almost seems to be a case of vaporware.

Why do you call it vaporware? Ive seen some of it in action, and I know there are people trialling it.
My guess is that they will launch a pretty full on service, that will blow away most other offerings... but not till its very ready...

There is no disputing it will be very cool and will certainly be something flashy for Telecom and AlcaLucent to show off to every other telco in the world but is it really going to be able to offer the end user a lot more than what Orcon could be offering by the end of the year for a lot less $$?
