As an aside - anyone know how to FORCE Yellow to not correct spelling when searching?

<- don't ask me where I am - I haven't a clue: its a tech thing ;)

I think that the Auckland phone book set could be a dying breed simply because of its sheer size. Three volumes; I'm not sure how thick the three books are these days. They used to be huge.

Where I live (Manawatu) the single local book is only about 2 cm thick.

My two cents worth anyway.

(Will be interesting to see if the 21,000 number drops even further for 2014.)

for about the last 5+ years I have put the phone books straight into the recycling and never used them. They are a complete waste of resources.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

jevvv: They delivered us Yellow and Business White, but no Residential White - want us to fill in a post back form or request the book online.

Not good for oldies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mind you the font in the books these days is about 8pt or smaller so most people will need magnifying glasses

I just don't use the whitepages website or phonebooks at all, For the last few years I have used Google or Local search engines to track down phone numbers.

The whitepages/yellowpages sites are a piece of crap to use, and I agree with the complaints about it above when searching for unusual names or weird business names etc.

I would also question how older persons are going to use the Whitepages.co.nz/yellowpages.co.nz sites when several I know of personally don't own computers and wouldn't know how to use them if they did.

Why bother with the survey or delivery at all?

In much of Europe, they just leave a stack by the entrance to most supermarkets. If you want a phone book, you pick it up and take it home.

Because the current TSO requires a directory to be delivered

The survey was commissioned to feed into the current TSO review, that will drag this into modernity

Telecom did damned well to sell its directory operations for $2.4 billion in 2007, on the other hand the Ontario teachers pension fund made a bit of a bad investment...

Phone book is much quicker if you're not already sitting at your desk with your PC on (and don't have a tablet)
