I have no idea wat bfd is.... I get 60kbps on average if its a new torrent i can get to 240kbps which is the max my line can handle(im far away from the telecom exchange it should be able to go to 800) Make sure you foward your ports right because youll get a better connection instead of using upnp. (automatic portfowarding... kinda)
Oh k man im lucky if I get 10-20, but for some reason I peaked for a few minutes at 120 the other day. K what do u mean a new torrent lol sorry im new to torrent, I use to use limewire :-( are you on a mac??how bowt some help with the ports? any chance you could tell me wat to do? do you know wat needs doing
Are you on dial-up Andy? Well some new torrents and popular ones have many seeds and leachers. The more seeds and leechers a torrent has, is better.
A seed is someone that hosts the file for you to download. (like limewire hosts)
A leacher is someone downloading the file like yourself. but you can also download parts of the file from a leecher at a slow speed.
Portfowarding is what you use for your internet programmes. If you port is closed and bittorrent is uding it you'll be lucky to get 10kbps if anything. If it is open it will use full speed.
I think you mean seeder and peers. Leechers are those who download but don't upload. Some clients will not let you do that and most trackers now require a decent share ratio
Stefan, no I am not on dial up, but these speeds are almost as slow as it. very frustrating lol. I will have a look at that port forwarding thing tomorrow, cheers for that, and I take it it takes you through the steps on what to do. Sweet as, thanks a lot
I'm wondering also which bittorent client to use: Azureus Vuze or Uttorent ? at the moment I have Azureus Vuze and that as well as all the clients I've tried so far have seemed to hog my bandwidth and it cuts off my msn and web browsing always returns 'connection reset'.
Go with uTorrent. Its a very small program and does all the good stuff. Its fast and tiny. Its what you want. When you have uTorrent open you don't really need to consider the program resources etc. Azureus on the other hand is like planning for a picnic. A really bloated picnic.
oh thanx for that I downloaded uTorrent, but I'm still having problems with my broadband, it cuts everything else off and even with my MSN it just completely cuts that off as well and the speeds aren't high at all. I've tried the PORT FORWARD website and I get as far as creating the rule and then I get an error which says ' method was not implicated ' ... I've got a D-Link302G if that helps ...
