Telecom are able to setup 3 alerts on the usage for each user/plan. however Vodafone do not have alert systems on the card usage, which means you run a risk of overusing.

Does anyone know if there are such alerts? How do we minimize the risk of someone overusing the card?

It was in the CBD. Treo 700v - working fine bar that general area. CBD coverage is somewhat critical, so poor coverage is not an excuse.

In most areas, I've noticed better performance and coverage on my Apache (which not an EVDO device mind you) than what I was getting on my Vodem (which was '3.6mbps' but didn't help that the local sites only went upto 1.8mbps and rarely ever got that fast anyway), guess which one I sold.

And yes, the phone was connected corrected in case you want to troll me over that point again.

I think we all need to get back to mcomp1's original question, and maybe ask them where they are based?

Everyone is in clear agreement then. kwaan is king of the world, and his opinion rules everything.

I guess he doesnt consider the possibility that in some situations, some services from some carriers perform poorly some of the time, but instead that Vodafone is perfect all the time.

Geez. Even our resident Vodafone trolls arent this close-minded.

how the hell did you guys manage to connect a data card with a phone????

PDA's can act as modems.... Apache vs Vodem - Apache because I can use it for voice, text and modem access!

this is telecom's website of what speeds they offer....FYI the Rev A speed is only availaible in auckland and in some areas only.....

as for Vodafone....if you are in a 3G area you will get 3.5mbps and if you are not then you will have to use their GPRS connection and will only manage 64kbps which is what telecom offers (slightly higher @ 80kbps) other wise Telecom's 3G speeds are 1100kbps.....

Guys, as exposed before, kwaan have no idea what he's talking about. Vodafone 3G (UMTS) is not the same as HSDPA, and HSDPA has very limited coverage.

Also, I use Vodafone HSDPA in the Wellington CBD and it manages to be slower than the Telecom CDMA EVDO Rev A.

Kwaan has been banned because he's attacked a moderator in a private message and used some names. So he's out.

As for the original poster, really, disregard his comments, because he's completely out of the loop and he's shown his knowledge of cellular data technologies to be limited.
