michaelmurfy: Try digging there to see, might be a treasure chest!

(I accept no responsibility if you hit 11kV cables instead)

If it were treasure it would be an 'X' ;-)

Alot of markings for all sorts of services on my street, thanks to new wastewater going in. It's going to be at least another couple of months til they're finished, with part of the road blocked at a time, and at some point we'll have no access (except footpath) to our driveway for 3-4 weeks.

I don't suppose you live in Christchurch?

Are they on your lawn, or are they on a council verge, as it looks close to the road. Do they have an easement across your property on the land title? If they are on your land, and they have no easement, you should ask them why they have done that.

If it is UFB they normally have a sign up. In Silverstream (coming in from the Trentham side past CIT) there is a sign saying that they're installing the ducting. I'm assuming though that where possible they're going to re-use existing given that they seem to have quoted an optimistic time of 'August' for when they'll be finished.

They're on the verge, not my lawn.

The council replied to my email overnight with "we have no idea what they are" (paraphrased). They said it might be phone or power related. Duh.

thats a bit silly of the council. Anything about to happen needs consent.
Of course it might only be a general costing up at this stage.

IANAL but I think utilities have their arses well covered with implied easement as well

I was just curious, I'll find out eventually I guess. I may mow the lawn soon though ;)

Hah mow the lawns.... careful it could turn out to be alien life forms doing their pre survey before creating a new crop marking.
