Wow, now I'm getting excited!

To be honest same speed or slightly less for download is acceptable it's the upload speed we need. As I mentioned before I'm willing to pay the install fee on the understanding it might not work. A few days should prove speed and reliability.

Isn't the modem brand critical with marginal service? Some better than others?

Can't you offer to pay for someones connection who's next to the cabinet? then setup a microwave link with ubiquity m5's or something. I'm getting UFB over a link just over 1km and its been rock solid, averaging 80mbits

Nice idea Gareth41, a simple solution. Maybe I should move next door to the cabinet and resell with a bunch of microwave links in my front garden!

I'm paying $100 for Chorus to come round and do an actual test rather than the current based on estimation figures. So will see how that goes.

Well the latest on my VDSL saga is now Chorus are refusing to come out and test the line even though I am paying an extra $100 for the service. They say based on 1.6km the line is not usable for VDSL.

But all the way along I have been saying the VDSL service is not required on the current phone line, it is a shorter 1.3km link via a disconnected line. There are many people getting reliable VDSL at that distance.

Does anyone know anyone who I can speak to at Chorus who understands English or who just simply listens? In spite of paying $100 for the tech to come out, Chorus refuses based on using the wrong cable and cable distance. 1.6km is an existing line clothed with ADSL on it. The new service is nothing to do with that line.

So it is a rejection based on their own error.

Is there any kind soul out there who knows anyone in Chorus who actually listens to a paying customers request. Anyone who knows a real person to talk too?

I have had private mails from others who have 1.3km+ working fine. So distance is not the whole story as we know. If i am paying for the test on a line that has not even been tested yet I'm not quite sure what the issue is.

My line length is 800m-1.1km somewhere in there and gets 32-35mbps. From anecdotal evidence ive seen people posting, i'd guess youd get speeds in the 20's on a 1.3km line if its of decent quality.

Hey that's more than fine for me. I currently get 12Mbs ADSL on the shonky old 1.6km line so anything more than that is fine. Even if it is the same on the new 1.3km line I don't mind. I just want the improved upload speed that VDSL offers.

Anything else is a bonus.
