Perfectly adequate for the vast majority of broadband subscribers in my opinion.
Even when fibre is running past my door I wont switch unless there is a compelling reason.
Right now, I can do everything I need with the connection I have so what is compelling me to move.

What is it that makes you want to move, is it purely speed? If so you may have periods of buyers remorse:)

i wouldnt really call myself a majority player in broadband subscribers however..

with the new 200/200 plans coming into play soon, its even more tempting..

would be nice to not have to put up with dealing with DLM and dodgy copper that im currently fighting with too.

latency is a big thing for me too..

So the running theme seems to be a lack of compelling reason to move from a system that currently meets ones needs, lack of RSP choice and technical difficulities with getting connected. The first reson seems to have come up time and time again in critism of the UFB rollout. Will be interesting to see if advances in offerings will help to change this (such as Vodafone's new TV offering and varations in speeds offered). Still early days I guess. Thanks for the replies.

when i want to push large files, i tend to expect it as fast as possible.. usually running a tuned TCP/IP stack both ends.

i do agree though, most people wouldnt notice the difference..

the other end of the stick being you could easily accidentally blow your limit oh so much faster..

what can i say, i thrive on new toys to play with, vdsl takes up alot of my time in tinkering, over analysing and such.. if the speeds there why not take it right?

i also have an incisiveness habit of getting very frustrated with congested links (on the CPE side - not much i could do about the ISP), the main initial reason going vdsl

when i get back to streaming/youtube, the upload speed is ever so useful too.. who doesnt wanna be able to multitask without need to change anything?

oh, and seeing the odd 20~MB/s would be pretty nice.. lawl..

then again, ild be likely to get a second 200/200 and bond/balance it simply for the fun of it.. - that could be a tad.. pricey though..

I upload raw images to my editor using 3-6 FTP threads, that could max up a decent connection. Someone doing video could max out 200 if they have smart enough software.

It just annoys me to see them rolling out fibre in areas that have great service as it is, and then read that the uptake is abysmal.

I'll let this thread get back to the original topic.

A few other comments:
At some stage I'm going to run my own conduit from the UFB pillar on the road side to the front of our house for a future potential UFB connection.

I'm not usually one to jump on the new technology bandwagon very quickly. It took me years to get ADSL (but I'm glad that I did). Same with bluray. Though the benefits of that aren't so great, IMO. I only got a LCD TV because my old CRT was dying in early 2012.

Well also being in a rental dont wanna get it installed anyway because I'd want a Star wiring solution (because not doing it and getting fibre seems silly to me), and like hell I'm doing that work for someone else's house where theres no guarantee I'll still be here in two years.

As fibre is replacement for copper, they are basically denying you access to a basic service. Some ISP's are moving to a policy of where there is fibre, they will not sell copper service; so depending on the provider you choose, your body corp may effectively be preventing you from getting phone and internet service.
Times are changing and if you are in the property (landlord) market, you need to adapt with these changes.
I'd hit them up about this, even consider legal action.

Well we switched to Orcon recently (suitable plan for us: free national calls plus Genius where unanswered calls to our landline get routed at no cost to my mobile - useful for us who spend 25-30% of our time away from home). We are not heavy users but they offered UFB connection free.

They say they won't dig up the garden, so even the other half says "Why not?" We are being connected on Thursday.

This annoys me too. The only thing preventing me from getting fibre is it not being available. In a central Auckland suburb.
