Test terminator is not required. It is simply there as a bit of a throw back so that NTS tests will work.

After restarting the router - left it off for 20 minutes, there has been no further change to syncrates. We'll see what DLM does over the next few days. I was expecting at least a minor jump.

If you are that close, and Snap ask the right people, you can get on a 17a profile.
I have done this for a few customers now and it has only required a phone call to the correct people. It definitely isn't the standard but is certainly possible for them to hard set 17a. In all instances have I have seen around a 65Mbps download speed with around 15-10Mbps upload.

We'll see what DLM does first. The line length should definitely be short.

Does anyone think that the current use of Stranded CAT5e vs solid core CAT6 would make a difference? Im guessing not since most CAT3 is stranded isn't it, and thats fine for phone connections.

Where is the stranded? Should be solid for permanent wiring.

Stranded cabling for termination point to patch panel. It's running from the front side of the house up a brick wall, into the roof and to the patch panel. The cable length is about 15m. It was put in by the alarm installer, electrician or some other original person who set up the house with phone cabling and/or put in the original splitter.

They clearly didn't know what they were doing, because not only was the cabling a mess and the colours all over the place, but it was using stranded throughout the house. The bedroom jacks were on cat3 but the rest was stranded cat5e.

We haven't replaced this as it's very difficult to get cabling in and out of a brick wall. The rest of the cabling throughout the house is CAT6 solid core that we have put in.

Hence why i ask if this would make any difference, should we make the effort of getting a new cable into the brick wall? it wouldn't be easy, even getting to the top of the wall in the roof is a tight squeeze. If its highly recommended to be replaced, then we'll see what we can do - i'll probably be sent up there haha.
