Ledgy: What's the story about having a phone also on this VOIP system? Any advantages or disadvantages to this?

I know that if you have a power cut it all goes down & I have a Panasonic cordless phone with battery backup for occasions like that.

it wont go down if you have the ONT, router and cordless base station connected to a UPS.

hamish225: ... im going to be signing my nana ...

You've probably already considered it, but just in case... If your Nana has a medical alarm or house alarm please make sure they will work on the new voip connection or that there's a mobile or IP equivalent available.

If she has a medical alarm please also make sure the new phone and broadband provider has it noted on the account, (preferably in a nice bright banner at the top,) so if there is a fault the customer service person is reminded to look into a medical escalation.
