Might have to knock on my neighbours door 2 houses away and ask to pay for their vdsl and hook up to their network haha.

heh, even still, theirs wouldnt be the best going off your stats..

heres hoping the manual prequal goes your way, and a clean up of your internal wiring will do it!

hio77: if snap say that vdsl isnt possible, no ISP will be able to offer it to you, unless they are trying to squeeze it by...

Is it Snap saying VDSL isn't possible - or is it Chorus?
In which case there is no point in asking another ISP for VDSL.
21db downstream attenuation is very high/bad.

10.8dB downstream attenuation is the rule of thumb maximum if you are to get VDSL - that's not a hard limit, but a pretty good guide. Not looking promising for you...

It may well be you are at the end of a cable run from somewhere, and your neighbour is fed from another cabinet - not much you can do about the route the cables have originally been installed all those years ago.

ekul: Thanks guys... I am with Snap, have sent an email off to them.. Sucks im pretty much on the border of VDSL AND Fibre, would consider changing ISPS to get VDSL as I'm just after faster upload speeds but seems its upto Chorus

Hi Ekul,

Results in, sorry not great - there is 12.4 dBm of attenuation on your line which means that we can't provision VDSL2 on it. The maximum specs for a VDSL2 line on the Chorus UBA network is 10.8 dBm

UFB is coming at your address, sorry still a couple of years away :(

I was on 4Mbp/s in Takapuna then we got cabinetised (in 2011), Then we got 18Mbp/s and i was over the moon.

I have a similar line to you (actually slightly higher attenuation) and while Orcon said no to VDSL, Bigpipe got it all connected. Same download speeds in the end except for upload taking a massive cut - ended up just switching back to ADSL and everything is hunky dory. Annoying because there's a Telecom pay phone WiFi box just across the street that seems to get great VDSL speeds but the copper seems to be just too far for us here too :(

Been quoted by a few that yes I can have VDSL and even my line stats allow me to have VDSL.
So far no success.

i used to live house that was reported by chorus's map to be in the >5mbit zone. turns out it was about 200M by the road from a cabinet which it was connected to, or about 600M by cables.

while the maps arent always correct, they give you a good idea.
