Well, the gear they have installed can support nearly all modes with the right card installed, However NZ is opting for ADSL2+ (24mb) ADSL2 is only 12mb

Just set it to auto, and it will connect on the best standard it can. At the moment basically the only improvement is that ADSL2+ will dynamically adjust the transmitting power to the minimum required to maintain the connection. The result is less crosstalk between adjacent lines. When all your neighbours also upgrade to ADSL2+ modems, then you will have less crosstalk from them.

tonyb: Over the last week I have been having a lot of disconnections, and the modem would not reconnect, have to power off/on.....then after reading this post and a few others, and finding the telecom wholesale rollout document, I could see that my exchange (Mt Pleasant) was on the list to be done in august, and that other people had experienced unstable connections during the upgrade period.

I went an brought a new ADSL2+ capable modem and its connecting at ADSL2+ (so it says) and now all stable......mabe some issue with ADSL1 only modems and the new exchanges ? I'm not getting any better speeds, ~4000 down / 800 up but it seems to be a bit snappier, maybe they are connected to a new back-haul ?

My exchange has also just undergone this upgrade and in the last few days I had been getting loads of random disconnections. but last night it all came right! speeds where up and consistant.... fingers crossed it stays like this!!

Hi everyone,

The exchange I'm connected to (Papanui in Chch) must have been done as the net is now miles faster:

Download speed is 2x faster than before, btw I live 2 kms from the exchange.
