Did take note to the fact they include Telecom BUBA, All those people that complain about how they ant watch videos on BUBA. Well here is solid proof they can:

Is it possible that because all Vodafone customers are lumped together that BUBA customers on Conklins are bringing down the rating to the point where VF as a whole gets rated SD where as ISPs that Google have managed to detect Fibre/VDSL customers of (edit:) separate of BUBA/Conklin customers (:end edit) get the HD cert.

Just a thought.

BUBA and Red Network customers will have a 27.xxx.xxx.xxx IP 99% of the time. Google wouldnt know cause we dont name our IP pools specific. And the people on those connections wouldnt make much of a dent on it.

I would say you're correct. We're have a modest res customer base but have a very decent sized Google Cache, and we don't show up on the SD or HD list.

Its up to the ISP to tag the IP ranges with BGP communities and give them names in the Google peering portal.

Best to discuss with your internal google contact, they would have received a briefing on what to do.

I'm looking for a new provider. I'll be going VDSL.

I like the look of the Vodafone plan, $85 including 6 months of free sky basic with MySKYHDi, Naked VDSL.

I don't like the two year contract though, would like a plan with no contract and BYO modem.

My biggest concern is connection rates. I've been on the old Unlimited or Heavy User plans, with Orcon, Slingshot, World Exchange, and Telecom, and gotten pretty bad speeds.

Can anyone here chip in on the general speeds for Vodafone VDSL at peak times?

The reason there's a contract is because the splitter install is compulsory and we foot the bill. You're free to get your own modem, but I'd be inclined to just use our one as it works pretty well contrary to popular belief =)

No. As mentioned below it's up to the ISPs to declare IP ranges to service types. We've been ridiculously thorough with our categorisation of access types (within the constraints of IP prefix to access type mappings) and have kicked off work to improve this further.

We're agonisingly close to HD across the country for as well for our main xDSL product, but unless we get that last 0.6% improvement we can't claim it.

Everyone should look also at the performance across the time of day (not the default view, but the one that shows percentages of HD plays across 24 hours)... Look for the ISPs and services that have nearly flat lines, (ie. no peak time degradation)

The problem I face is my own VoIP- I like to use VoIP off various devices and providers, and found a lot of issues with different devices from different providers. I'd rather not use a company's device that does its own VoIP service as that may cause issues using another provider- I've seen it a few times now. Can you vouch that I wont have device related issues with VoIP on the Vodafone VDSL modem using other providers' services, such as 2talk or VFX?

no contract, BYO modem, unlimited VDSL.
try out www.bigpipe.co.nz

$99 unlimited data. do whatever you want with voip.

(I think the VF plan you are looking at is wrong too - the naked VDSL plan is not eligible for the free 6 months of sky, you need to take a homeline for that, as well as a 24 month (!) contract - not that sky is any good anyway when you have unlimited data to get stuff off the internet!)

I have a non-technical flatmate who's a big sports fan, so the Sky is for him- getting it free for him means I can charge him a bigger share of the flat bill meaning less for the rest of us, and he still saves. I think you're right though, I can't find it on Naked DSL. Getting Clothed and not plugging in the phone, telling the flatmates it's Naked, would still be a cheap deal.

I'm looking at BigPipe, seems ok. It's peak time now, any big pipe home VDSL users care to run a speed test for me?

Also, do they give free static IPs? That's a deal breaker.

they do public IPs, not static IPs. What do you actually want a static IP for? (most of the time I've seen people request static IP, they actually don't need one)

When I've tested, I've never had less than full line rate at peak time on Bigpipe.
