I'm not at all excited about having my crap copper connected to someone else's dslam providing the same crap sync speeds

Well obviously you didn't read the press release that Browns Bay exchange is part of the second pilot roll-out next month. I thought my question was a legitimate one but obviously got lost in the back-slapping hilarity of this thread.

In the photo in the paper today you can read the text above their logo. Says "this space reserved for". So you'd be right.

Yerp. As vodafone own Ihug, it seems they had dibs and got gear in first. Orcon were there for show.

The red cabinet may be an ISAM box, but looks a little tall. The ones near the orcon panel if I recall are plain old 1-2nd gen nokia DSLAMs. Since replaced with ASAMS, and now ISAMS.

Those puppies (isams) have a chunky switch attached.. often a 40Gb/s one per cabinet or 2. In saying that, the red cabinet is possibly empty. The actual ISAM ones have fibre bundling down the sides of them for the backplanes to fire off to the core switch. That could be a placeholder box persay.

Sorry but I didn't intend to give the impression that I felt anything was a personal attack and I don't know how that interpretation eventuated. I guess I thought my question was relevant in this thread. I searched the forums but couldn't find any way to find out what exchange I was on although I can recall some discussion about this a long time ago. Do you recommend that I start a new thread with my question?

I read the press releases. I beleive I am on the Browns Bay exchange. I know it is one of the next in line for LLU testing. My ping has decreased by 10 ms in the last month, my speedtests have been consistently higher in the last month even during busy periods. Does any think these two things are related?

I have noticed in the last month or so that my download speeds have greatly improved, latency is better and there are less drop-outs. I wonder if this is anything to do with the September pilot and Telecom improving things at this exchange in preparation for September?

Last I checked browns bay was in auckland anyway. I would have thought the reasons for selecting exchanges for the launch were pretty self evident,
