Ild get a prequal done, insure you can get vdsl before worrying too much about a modem for it..

Then ild probably go bigpipe considering your constraints, the folk over at bigpipe are great so ild say you will have a good experience there :)

Contact them with your address, and im sure they will get back to you reasonably fast with an answer on if vdsl is worthwhile or not.

You could always go adsl first, find out your line stats and such, then consider moving up to vdsl.

just used their search and it said basic fast or turbo.

are they very good for support etc? not that i expect to need them outside of an outage.

fast or turbo would infer your likely possible to get vdsl, ild still get a prequal just to know if your a borderline customer or not.

last i heard their response times are still pretty damn good.

remember they are email only support though (unless they need to call outbound, to you.)

Unless they have changed their policies. Bigpipe will put you behind a GC Nat router. This means you will only get assigned a private IP address. Might cause an issue for online gaming.

bigpipe do provide public ips upon request however.

http://unlimitedinternet.co.nz/ is $10 a month cheaper than bigpipe, naked is $69 a month unlimited.

I switched from snap to them a week ago and had no issues since the switch, getting the same speeds as snap, watching multiple HD netflix streams at once.

no contract, $45 setup fee though, but thats it. worth a shot IMO.

Sometimes it can be cheaper to get ADSL and then switch to VDSL, then to get VDSL upfront. Whichever router you choose, I'd recommend getting a dual mode ADSL/VDSL model.

Just remember unlimited internet charges from sign up date, not provisioning date. I have just changed providers and that was the thing that stopped me going with them. I just don't see how they can justify charging for a service they aren't providing.

yes that seems to be true with unlimited. my next billing date is the 16th, yet my service was activated on the 18th.

going to ask them about it, I see no problem with that really, but if I cancel and my month ends on the 16th and not the 18th, then yeah I wouldnt be happy about that.

created a support ticket with unlimited about billing date, within 10 minutes (after 6pm at night on a friday) I had a reply and my billing date was changed to the 19th.

so dont be concerned about that, they will happily change it.

DrFixIt: Hi,

There's a few different options, there's a list at http://www.ispreview.co.nz.

That site has always been, and always will be a tonne of crap. It is hosted by HD and is basically another advertisement medium for HD + anything HD hosts/sells. An ISP review site should be run by a non-bias party.

This is why HD and Unlimited Internet looks like the best options on the site whilst everything else looks crap, and why in my opinion Ben has not changed.

Anyway, back on subject. I'd strongly recommend Bigpipe.
