Success! The Chorus contractors turned up unannounced today, dug up the ducting joint across the road, fed a new ducting under the road, and completed the whole installation - finishing at around 6.30pm. Very happy.
Haha even worse - this Chorus install is for my parents place, so the extra speed is completely wasted on them.
But the speed on fibre here in Christchurch is pretty good too.

You can't officially buy the green Chorus branded conduit, someone at Corys told me they can get a $20,000 fine for selling it to joe public.
The likes of Bunnings sell 20 mm white pressure pipe in 6 metre lengths. This is exactly the same diameter as the Chorus stuff. You can also get sweeping bends in the same diameter, and joiners.
I wouldn't trust the install guys to put it in a conduit or to go deep enough even if they do. If you're prepared to do the dirty work yourself and dig your own trench, put the conduit in with a draw string then you can at least know it was done right.
Yeah the ruggedised microduct is approved for direct burial so they would want to do that, probably because damaging it is property owners risk. Above ground along a fence line may be an alternative.
I doubt it would be a major redesign to get a third microduct into the other handhole, but then you may find that the main duct and any spare feeder fibres/splitter ports have already been allocated.
Time to find a new industry!
