At the end of the day I think it's the manner and tone of your delivery, rather than the message itself that rubs people the wrong way. You can take that for whatever value it holds for you, but more than one person has noticed it on more than one occasion.

It's all getting a little off topic now, so I suggest we just drop the side discussion and get back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Own your own opinions.

Anyway, not sure where this is heading. You asked how that ping time compared and I gave you one from my network to google.com (Sydney server). I also empathised with your complaint about their customer service.

You have been given good advice from others - re: SLA and DNS.

OK, so I'm a bit peeved with Vodafone at preset. I edited the post a few minutes after to tone it down. In exchange you make a snide comment about not contributing.

But seriously, what do you want to hear? This is an issue which can really only be investigated by Vodafone. If you want to take this further here, I suggest posting a C&P of your traceroute and also comparative tests to other servers.

If you are hitting Google in Australia I'd expect a lot better. If you're hitting them on the West Coast of the US, I'd say your results are quite reasonable.

networkn: Hi There!

A customer we do some work for just had a P2P 100/100 Fibre Connection installed via Telstra.

Just for clarification:

Do you mean Telstra (Oz) or Vodsofone/Telstra clear (NZ)?

Clint

I mean the Telstraclear NZ (Now VF) Network.

Yup, the Google caches which ISPs have are 'black boxes', and they ensure that the search results come from a cache with sufficient capacity. In general larger ISPs with their own local caches don't get sent to the Sydney nodes for www.google.com, even if they have direct peering with them there. Just to make things more interesting it sometimes changes without warning so it's not a great test to simulate user experience of the Google Apps suite.
