Davoid: Well contacted Spark to see if they were going to offer better speeds that the 30 down (slower than my VDSL), but not going to happen. Thought this would be the case, but really wanted them to know that as others are offering higher speeds for similar money, it may be time for them to review the offer. I am actually reasonably happy with my download speed (more power is always better :) but would really like to get faster upload speed as I use online backup for work files.
Oh well rant over.

David

Wha? Why don't you get 100/50?

Is about time Spark ups it's base offering to at least 50/20 or it will start losing out to competitors

I live up off West street.

and as I mentioned earlier the 100/50 is another $30 a month, where others are offering at similar speeds (or greater) at the 30/10 rate. I think Spark are already getting enough of my money.

Erm?? Which other ISPs offer a 50/20 speed on UFB? As I have never seen that product ever advertised by any ISP. I highly recommend you find out how the whole fibre network was tendered for and deployed before making such a statement.

If you read the Crown Fibre Holdings "For RSPs" Documents here: http://www.crownfibre.govt.nz/crown-partners/retail-service-providers/

You will see that all Bitstream 2 services are either 30/10 or 100/50. There was never a 50/20. There is a 50/50 and 30/30 for Education, but I assume you are not talking about schools?

Bitstream 2a introduces 100/20, 100/100, 200/20 and 200/200 for residential. Plus 1000/500 Gigatown if you live in Dunedin from Chorus. Other LFCs are looking to offer 1000/500 speeds too in the future.

So Spark like all other ISPs can only offer what the Fibre Companies offer to them. The fibre companies then in turn only offer services what they were contractually obliged to do so by Crown Fibre Holdings.

Over a year ago Chorus proposed increasing it's base plan to 50/20 for the same wholesale price as 30/10, with RSPs having the option to roll out this as their base plan.  Did this proposal never actually get implemented? (off topic)

Bartender, Jonb did not say others were offering 50/20, he just says that that should be looked at as a minimum (that's how a read it anyway)
