Correct  but there are special conditions around how and when this is done as the cost of instaling & running GPON services over these fibres is far greater than that for a standard Crown Fibre Holdings supported UFB connection  - in saying that this is how many of the schools have a GPON connection available but these where project supported by CFH

Geektastic:

It does seem a bit pointless having it there and not using it.

The fibre itself could be 3kms away and there is a $30k build out fee to bring it to you.
So its not like its outside your door and you can easily just connect into it instead of it sitting there doing nothing.
Fibre could be in the ground some distance away but the area has been identified where it might be "possible with business level $$$" for them to bring it to you.
