Inphinity: *shrug* Chorus were great for us. Ordered fibre, got given a date ~2 weeks later, guy turns up, couple hours later fibre is on and working and hasn't missed a beat since. They had to do some traffic management consent etc and it was all smooth as.

My install went relatively smoothly too; there was a delay of a couple of days but that's because my underground install was deemed "too hard" and had to be switched to overhead... and the original build team hadn't put the necessary equipment on the pole so there was a delay while that was done.

Once those problems were sorted, the actual installation only took half a day.

To those who claim I'm "soap-boxing", you're right, I am. It's the only option I have left to me (except going to MP, which is a good suggestion, thanks!). I've tried everything else. I can't get answers out of Chorus directly as they only deal with my ISP and my ISP seems to have no idea what Chorus are up to either. Fact is I've been waiting 7 months and most of that time, nothing has been happening (no updates, no progress at all) and I'm at my wits end. I realise other people have had it worse but it's still too long to wait. And saying that soapboxing it won't do anything is probably not accurate. Already it's got the attention of a Chorus rep who SAID he's going to look into it, which is more progress than I had before...

I'm a gamer and techhead with no internet... Also as I mentioned, one of the connections is for my business. What I didn't mention is that my business is an IT Support business... with no internet... makes things a bit tricky to say the least!

I never had one. Moved into the place and ordered fibre the very next day. My ISP offered VDSL as a temp solution while this gets sorted but then told me that fibre was progressing and would be connected soon and there was no point provisioning VDSL as fibre would be in place in the same timeframe. That was nearly a month ago...

We just had another Chorus classic.  We had a Chorus tech up last month to a site to do the inside installation.  The external civil team had not done the outside build yet, so he went away.

Guessed who just turned up a month later?  Yep, the inside build team.  Guess who has not turned up yet?  Yep, the outside plant team.  Guess you left the site again, having done nothing?  Yep, the inside plant team again.

We have this happen lots.

Chorus, you must be wasting huge amounts of time sending people again and again to sites that are not ready for them.

I applied for my install to be done, had the scope guy ring me up and arrange a time and then never show up (After I had taken the afternoon off work). I called him and he said I should be fine for install (ok?) he didn't need to do a scope and that apparently the internal and civil install team are now the same team and do it in one hit. Will be interesting to see what happens come install day being they will need to run the fiber overhead across the road by the looks.

When I had the UFB install done at my place the Chorus guy who the did the initial survey had the right address - but surveyed the wrong property.  Duh!  I figured this out from the survey result, and he came back and surveyed the right property (a week later or so).

When they came to do the outdoor plant they engaged a trenching contractor and two guys about 60km's away from where I live (and there were plenty of contractor's closer).  The trencher was booked by Chorus and was being met by a Chorus technician.  The technician turned up 2 hours late.  When the Chorus technician arrived he had forgot to bring the kit to do the job and left.  He didn't come back for another 2 hours.

When we eventually came back the trenching contractor asked where the trench was to go (why couldn't the Chorus guy tell the Trenching team this before he left the first time?).  The trenching contractor asked the Chorus technician why a trench was needed when a conduit already existed in the ground from where fibre was all the way to my house.  So no trench was needed.

However the Chorus guy said he couldn't put a fibre into the existing conduit and he would have to come back.  The trenching contractor offered to do it (he had already wasted half his day).  About 10 minutes later the trenching contractor had finishing blowing the fibre along the conduit.

The Chorus technician (actually there was two of them) then spent the remainder of the day doing the inside work.

Basically 16 man hours of time was spent on just doing the installation when it should probably have been 4.  And that's ignoring the site survey time.

It's not just me.  We've had problems like this again and again with our clients.  Poor scheduling.  Bad surveys.  Needlessly drawn out installations due to repeated mistakes.

Why?

There is serious consideration being given at present to RMA changes for UFB, and it's a very topical issue. Approaching an MP or Amy Adams to express views is an exceptionally logical thing to be doing.

Just clicking +1 isnt enough to show how much I agree with this.

We must get fiber internet into the privileged position that copper phone has at the moment as being essential. For them not to do that at the time UFB was being designed was IMO insanely negligent. There is an opportunity to resolve this hopefully happening soon, and this would allow many people that are stuck with obstructive Luddite neighbors to be able to benefit from the network that we have all paid a hell of a lot to have installed.

Yep, It wasn't his job to do it, but he had the gear to do it, and was obviously focused on the customer and the whole job, as opposed to what is strictly written in his contract.

I don't know about Amy Adams, but you'd be lucky to get anything other than an irrelevant form letter form my MP, especially if it's about something topical. He doesn't have to worry about getting elected and is far too busy to listen to constituent issues. That's my experience anyway.

Off topic I know, just responding.

I can definitely understand OPs pain. We were waiting 8 months for our UFB install, however Chorus were most inefficient. Consents were a nightmare, we're in a high rise office/residential building that the director of our company owns completely and they still took their time arranging this. Then they inspected the site, said they were doing design and then months later they told us they needed to subcontract it out to someone else because it was an MDU (they had already visited and still took WEEKS before informing us of this). Then once fibre was in the building, they sent someone out to put in a second ONT before our original one was installed (we only had one connection arranged) which pushed back the date even further. This entire time Orcon's business team was constantly pushing and escalating Chorus for updates that never seemed to come much to their dismay.
