I remember reading a post on GZ that had a link to a map showing the locations of exchanges and cabinets in New Zealand. I tried looking for it but can only find a really old thread that points to the old telecomwholesale website, and I can't find a comparible map on the sparkwholesale site. Does anyone have a link for a current map?

This map shows most of the cabinets:

Exchanges are harder but you can try:
https://koordinates.com/publisher/BroadbandMap/sets/
Just look for fibre running into a building near the centre of the 20mbps/VDSL zone, and then you can check by looking up the building description also.

Probably the easiest way to get your actual cable length is to ask Chorus.

These locations appear to be well-kept secret - I'd love to know where our local exchange is, but can't find it.

I know where a lot of these are, what exchange do you think you are connected too?

I emailed Spark and received a reply today. Andrea from Spark has done exactly as I had asked and checked my neighbours and we are all too far away from the exchange for VDSL. Very happy with the service from Spark, despite the very disappointing result. Nothing to do but wait for fibre in 2019. Boo!
No point going for a master filter by the look of it.

Hmm. useful advice. What about this situation..

We have an underground phone line, runs around 1/2km from a grey plastic pillar at the road gate to a white plastic box marked "Telecom" on the side of a shed.
From there it goes off underground in two direction - to the house and workshop.

I assume the white box is the Termination Point, I disconnected the inbound line there when I installed VOIP, repurposed the underground house/workshop lines connected via the box to run a phone extension in the workshop.

We trenched & laid in the line from the gate in the 80's. I assume it must have been turned over to Telecom at some stage? So it's now Chorus property?
A pine plantation has now grown over the underground cable. I have a plan to re-use it to connect a security system at the gate. All the trees prevent a wireless link to the house.
