The real question here is when will I be getting gigabit in Auckland....

(joking... I'm not THAT much of an Aucklander).

You can, just not at the 'normal' UFB rates.  I looked at this recently and its around $500 a month:

Cbfd: Good ole chorus using second hand gear taken from other exchanges :p

Great idea - in some of the areas that UFB has gone into there is probably some really good xDSL gear coming out.
Makes sense to re-deploy this very expensive kit and use it to fix problems in other areas.
Sensible use of (limited) funding if you ask me.

They should swap those Conklins into all the areas that have fibre. Would would help with the UFB uptake :)

Waste of labour doing that. There will be plenty of free ports on the cabinets as people move off dsl to fiber that can be bothered. For those that cant just delete VDSL and ADSL2 from the product range offered to addresses that have fiber available to them. Then put them all on the same 8 meg backhaul. Then just turn them off and go back to providing from the exchange as its not viable keeping a powered cabinet.

GregV: That video is fantastic! - I note that "This video is unlisted. Be considerate and think twice before sharing."  Do you know if there is a reason that the creator didn't make it 'public'?

Thanks Greg, this was the newer Video and yes we were given permission to post.
