They suddenly had 7-9000 homes they didn't need to do for some strange reason that are now parks....

And the 4-10 new subdivisions get it provisioned as part of the setup. So probably got a bit of bonus time/workers to do other existing burbs now.

For the past few weeks I've regularly seen the crews working Sat and Sun rolling it out. At present this is happening Merivale and north of Bealey

Ya, the reality is that it's getting done.

I'm just pleased to see a roll out plan because I now know where I stand.

I've been putting off building more network because I expected to see fibre sooner, but it's clearly not showing up for years, so I'm just going to keep building more of my own network to give me the service I want.

As someone who lives on Dyers Pass Rd I am sad :(

I'm not sue If I was better off not knowing when fibre would come versus knowing it'll be around 2018.

Like that Enable finally got round to making a decent map; not sure on the colouring of fibre being the same and fields/parks though :P

Johnny67: Looks like I shall be switching to cable, 2018 too long a wait for me!

If you can get good rate VDSL then you should, other wise if you can get cable you should do that next.

this really has to be about just using the best resources in the street that we can until all the upgrades are done.

We did try VDSL (with Spark) but swapped back to ADSL after a week as the connection was terribly slow and unreliable.

Later found out that all the other providers have it as unavailable for our address (though Spark still say we can get it??)

hamish225: i cant figure out why that one area in burwood/shirley isnt getting done till 2018 or whenever the pink part is. why meeee

I see your pain brother....  but there is HFC in some of the area and the VDSL is ok if you're close enough to the cabinet too.

Personally I just built a wireless network over my part of the suburb.

pretty sure there is no HFC in that area. maybe a little bit but definitely none in my subdivision. telstra stopped rolling that out before my house was even built and no matter how much we pestered them had no interest in connecting us.

We live in an area (western Christchurch) with overhead power and telephone. We're due to get UFB within the next 12 months.

Are Enable trenching everywhere in Christchurch, or are they also doing overhead in places? Curious to know whether we will get trenched or not...

We are in an area with overhead power/chorus lines and we were trenched. I haven't seen Enable do overhead yet so I wouldn't imagine so.

Interesting, thanks. I've got a query in with Enable as well; I'll report back if their answer is different.

DarkShadow: The public Chorus map does go up to 2019 right?

Yes, but it just says things like "

NETWORK UPGRADE SCHEDULED

  • UFB fibre up to 200 Mbps between Jul-2019 and Dec-2019"

for areas that are still cyan coloured. They haven't got any clearer details for after June 2016.

Can't wait for Moorhouse to be done.... Just tried to get some new ADSL connections in to a business and was told EUBA isn't available, only BUBA?!

They have gadgets that trench. Dig a hole here, dig a hole there, and lo and behold they trench it. I mean an underground gadget driven hole, not a dug trench. Mine was down fence line line but ideal for under paths and driveways.

From what I've seen, in some places in Christchurch they thrust bore, in others it's simply an open trench. Probably depends on the type of ground and the number and type of other services in the way.
