no like when its throtled its faster.... ive been trying to download a new gamefor the whole day it timed out about 5 hours ago and i restarted it now

This is what I get from the techs at telecom, go large basically you share your tiny 64Kbps bandwidth with other users on your node. So .... get out of the go large plan, it is now no longer available/valid anyway.

Who said anything to do with 64kbps???

I only got the info from the tech at telecom when a friend of mine rang up when he noticed that his speed got slower and slower. I am only passing the message on.

Go Large is not subject to throttling to 64kbps so 64kbps has no bearing on it. Many connections on Go Large can pull down more than 64kbps (see also Tonys, Fossies, or my old folks connection), you may be confusing the the 64kbps connection speed with the traffic 'management'.

Its nothing to do with the technology providing the internet service (I'm getting 13mbps international on DSL right now), but rather the plan + associated traffic management stuff.

i havent used download managers since the dark ages.... (when i was on dialup) they were good for resuming lost connections and queuing up downloads, what others do you guys recommend? ive heard of dap and am about to try it..... any others?

i had a telecom line tech come to my house and test my line to see why i wasnt able to connect a few weeks ago he stated after hooking in his handheld line tester (i want one of these) to my phone socket; that i should be able to get a max speed of 2.9mbit/s down.... which kind of pissed me off twofold as :

1)i have never been able to connect/acheive any higher than 1.8-2.0mbit (crappy xtra supplied modem?)
2) i see alot of forum posters stating they get 3,4, even 6mbit residential connections,

the problem turned out to be my modem
(2nd replacement of the xtra supplied d-link 302g), was cooked...
was replaced for free by xtra (again) this time i asked for the d-link 502t they now push on their free connection pack customers

is adsl+2 compliant...

i know if i get a proper 3rd party (not freebee) modem i would get better speeds/connection for my go large plan and torrent app, but hey,,, where else (except extended warantees) can i burn out a modem by constant connection thrashing torrents, then call xtra and have a replacment sent out free within 2 working days? (rhetorical)

anyway, im still eager to see the benefits(outcome) of this supposed $1.4billion nzd hardware/line upgrade

oh and btw, ive never been put in that traffic managed/ fair use/over use- pool xtra was talking about when they first started the plan, and i have several times gone over the stated peak hour data usage by several hundred mb
what ever happend to that idea? is it still in effect? is there still a peak hour restriction where if you use over 700mb of data transfering between the hours of 4pm-12am nightly? or have they abandoned that idea when they stopped offering the plan,
if so, let me know, so i can "unleash the dogs of war" so to speak :P

Good on the people who are getting fast speeds on Xtras Go Large.... for the people that complain that they arnt getting fast speeds who are on this plan, what do you expect?

You are on a budget plan, its cheaper for a reason.... its budget!

If you want a faster plan, pay the money like everyone else and stop complaining.

There is no 700mb limit. That was canned and they just apply management to your plan 24/7. That's why you got a juicy refund.

$50 a month is NOT cheap. And when i get top speeds of 25kb/s i feel like I have the right to complain.

Spoke to a mate who is on Go Large just today and he said it was steadily getting slower and slower as it's all just a few leechers now. I'm amazed Telecom has not pulled everyone off it by now.

I am happy to pay a bit of a premium for my blistering 12Mb connection with it's "tiny" 20GB Data cap, (Orcon special free homeline deal, it's only $100 all up)

I do not spend all day downloading illegal Moviez, Torrentz, Mp3z and Warez so I don't need this "safety net" stuff.

Ugh, If I'm going to torrent then I'm happy with slow speeds etc, I deserve it as most people who torrent do - 99% of the time your doing things you shouldn't be with it, I know you can get Linux ISOs faster in torrents(In America, But deff not NZ!) but I mean I'm sure people are much more likely getting the distro from the original source!

I don't use Go large, But don't mind slow downloads if I'm not paying for the content...

Of course when I am paying for the content (AKA iTunes music) then I want a very fast download speed...

I use Xnet, $1 per GB, always the much better option - Why do people even stick to go large? at 25kbps you would only just get to 16GB ( $50 ~ on the Xnet river plan), and even if you go over its only a couple of Dollars more!

If you're just browsing the net, you have to be going very hard to use 200MB a day, thats only 6GB...Add some YouTube vids and a few MP3s you would only really be at 10gb - with another provider you would be $6~ cheaper for a better experience)

I don't know if this reply had much point, only to show unless you know how to make the most of it, there is no real reason for you to be on the plan and not another one.
