I would love to see the new Spectrum graph of the new 998 band, as a 17a user my first upload band is used by nothing and is just empty.

Yeah, 17a will really fly with this.

Reminds me of when i was on 17a...

This quickly settled down however.

Which does make sense, if the space isnt needed, may aswell have less crosstalk at the lower end!

I've just been reading about this upgrade to the 998 band just now to get some more info, and I came across this little snippet:

"The 998 VDSL band plan is more asymmetric, meaning higher download speeds (at the expense of lower upload speeds) compared to speed achieved under the 997 band plans." - http://www.tcf.org.nz/content/576773bf-4406-4a4f-8796-f217148d3201.html

Now, I'm doubly confused :)

on 17a with all the extra upload band space, ild expect to see a reasonable jump in it. Marginal 8b lines will likely drop down.

openmedia: Has anyone seen the test results, particularly for the longer loop lengths. Is there a chance this change will increase the range for VDSL from the exchange/cabinet?

Purely theoretical, it would likely be better on the downstream, but upstream would tank a fair bit more. - not as much as if chorus hadnt decided to bring US0 in though!

Generally, people only care about their downstream, so thats all people will really worry about! - lets not talk about tcp acks eh!

You should do yes, thats part of the advantage. A few I know working for some of the contractors have been on the 997 Pilot, and have seen increases in longer distance lines. Should hopefully mean more availability.

I'm still on 997 , but I look forward to maxing my line with my current attainable being 59/50

Dont take attainables as True values, they are an estimation.

your line is still 997, and thus sitting on the 10Mbit upload limit clearly.

Just wait it out, there is no clear answer of how long things are in "trial" for.

Im curious as to what if any the change to the SNR will be, will it still be 12dB or will it be lower?

as for the OP can you post you actual connection stats from your modem pretty please, it will speak wonders in this thread.

Ive heard a report or two of some odd figures (although explainable by syncing when noise is low, so not definite - not the case for this line since its resynced a few times and kept 9dB however.)

Does that mean my VDSL will be competive with Fiber? As Fiber wont be installed here untill 2018. But my VDSL seems to be locked at 70/10.

on a 17a line, Yes it would compare well to fibre. You are still on 977.
