Jase2985: The ping is fine if you are not on DLM-1

The broadband map for that area is a little screwed, and it looks like if your on one side of the road you could be connected to one cabinet/exchange and if your on the other you could be connected to a different one.

I'm close to 7 Balmain Rd, down into the driveway.

Speed will vary on many factors as posted above

Was expecting at least a steady 25 as required by Netflix 4K NZ. And currently youtube 4K is barely smooth on 21.

My old house had ADSL up to 14/15 for years, so didn't thought VDSL would be such a small difference. Yeah I know upload is much improved.

(Can't get fiber at the moment as need to convince all the neighbours to agree. :-( )

I'm willing to trade some upload speed for download for sure, I don't have any high speed upload requirements. Hope 998 will help.

If you're living at 7 Balmain Road then your cabinet is BD/E at the corner of Balmain and Radiata. You'll know you're on 998 when you wake up and find your speeds shot up. :)

Yes, I was disappointed about the 20Mbps speed. We are using Netflix 4K which needs a steady 17Mbps-ish stream, so it left little for the laptops. Now with 35Mbps cap, I see it is quite enough for our needs.

I have no idea how to check the transmitting power.

hmm so i checked out a 4k video on youtube, and it suggested that it was doing 35 megabit..

can you stream 4k videos on youtube fine?

i was using https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_okcNVZqqI to test.

that said it was buffering ahead a bit.

transmit power is labeled downstream output power in your attachment, near the bottom

I think my VDSl can handle this youtube clip fine, the waiting is short and buffering is always steadily ahead, but my early 2011 MBP 13 doesn't have the power to play it smoothly.

My TV can play high bitrate 4K file I feed it via USB, but the built in Youtube App doesn't support 4K. Only the built in Netflix supports 4K. That used to work just fine when I have only 20Mbps speed, but with little head room.

I switched to a 2014 MBA, similar CPU performance but better GPU. Now the play is smooth, I can even do a 2X play.

Both of the laptops show the highest resolution option as 2140P.
