Yeah we have customers using 600mm dishes over even just 17kms of water and the performance isnt that great. And those customers have about 100m of height at each end so the fresnel clearance above the water is much better. We dont like selling service to anyone over water now.
As a side note, we found 2.4ghz to be better performing over water than 5ghz.
My experience setting up 5ghz ubiquiti gear over water is quite the opposite. I installed a link from the snells beach motel to kawau yacht club about 10km over water and got full signal strength when tide in, however dropped to just over 50% with tide out. The motel is about 25m above sealevel and dish at kawau yacht club was mounted on a pole near water, probably about 4m above high tide mark.

Mmmm, trying to upgrade to win 10. Where are those tide tables? Best we start at around 1 am at full tide!!
Or, have to wait till next week when tide coincides with early evening to watch the Netflix movie!
