mus1402: After contemplating for so long, I think I'm gonna go with InSPire Net Bitstream FS-FS it costs $200 with 100GB and throttled. The reason I chose that is because I can't afford Actrix Broadband Elite

This is going to b an average of 10 GB per user in your flat, and after that speed capped to be shared for everyone - you won't like it whn your connection drops to dial up speed after five days.

If you have ten people in the flat, you should all share the cost - $59 per person for unlimited use is not bad at the end of the month.

Be warned, no one is going to like when it's capped...

cokemaster: Did you consider slingshot or WorldxChange?

For WorldXchange:
100GB at FS/FS = $102.40 data charges + 49.95 (make that 69.95 if using Naked DSL). Throttle on cap once budget exceeded. Cost: 152.35, 172.35 (naked with no landline voice service)

For Slingshot:
100GB = 2x $40 (50GB data blocks) + 49.95. Thorttle on cap once budget exceeded. Total cost 129.95 and you have 6GB that came with the plan!

Both are cheaper than the $200 for 100GB price that inspire offer.

Damn, I feel like a used cars salesman.

I'm not going for Slingshot after hearing so many negative report.

Could you explain a bit more on that WorldXchange plan? How is it cheaper than Inspire Net Bitstream?? I dont see it anywhere on the top listed ISP (based on data allowance) in nzconnection.net site. Which plan are you refering to?

Works like this:

You choose a base plan which provides the speed.

256kbps/128kbps: $26.95
Full/128kbps: $33.95
Full/Full: $49.95

... then you add on your data at a rate of $1.02 per GB. e.g. I want Full/128kbps and 20GB = $54.35 per month.

- OR -

... choose 'Unlimited' and use as much as you want at a rate of $1.02 per GB. This means that there is no price cap, so if you don't manage your usage... you can blow your bill up heaps!

The big thing for me if I was considering another internet provider (sorry, xtra serves me well) was that there isn't any minimum term contract. So you can try them out, if you aren't happy - switch providers at no penalty.

One more thing:

If you select a managed plan and use LESS than you applied for (say my plan is 20GB but I used 16GB this month) you only pay for what you use... so you probably save even more that way.

I notice you mentioned Woosh. Having prior experience with them (customer service, help desk wait times (and music), international traffic speeds (dialup-like), etc) I wouldn't touch them with a 40ft pole.
I also second the Xnet recommendations, they could charge $20-30 more than almost anyone else and I'd still be with them

Very impressed with the service I'm recieving.

For normal ADSL connections, you will need a phone line connection (not necessarily with Telecom).

You may also choose Naked DSL if you don't want a fixed landline.

Best thing with Xnet is if you dont use the bandwidth you dont pay for it. So if you say "most I want to pay is 152.35 (100gigs + the Full speed package) but you only use say 2 gigabytes that month (all your flatmates are away or something) then you would only end up paying $52 that month. Also if your at your 100gig limit and youve still got 10 days to go you can adjust your limit on the fly power cycle router and back to full speed again :)

we've decide to split the internet connection. instead of 10ppl we're going with 5 each. so that would be easier to manage since some of us use more and others use less. so at the moment im waiting for my landlord's confirmation to see whether the house has 2 phone lines. If it has two, i'll probably go with WorldxChange and my mates go with TelstraClear (since it come with SKY). However, if theres only one phone line, I'm thinking of using naked DSL, Xnet Fusion. What are others thought? Is that the best option for naked DSL or is there something better? Any known problems of using naked DSL? Let me know what you guys think.

For Naked DSL, I don't think you can go wrong with WorldxChange. With the forum rumblings and inactivity of support from Slingshot, even though they offer a competitive connection - its simply not worth it.

WorldxChange have a fantastic relationship* with their customers on these forums, although I have never personally used their support channels (phone or email). The only problems with Naked DSL generally related to the provisioning aspect such as porting numbers to their VoIP provider and if you are getting your landline service through another company such as Slingshot, Orcon, Ihug etc.

If your 'landline' has two pairs and you wish to split the connection, you may wish to activate the second line, otherwise you may need to get another cable installed, particularly if you are considering 5 DSL connections. Of course, splitting it using a DSL router (and sharing one DSL connection) would not require multiple lines.

* Before anyone asks, I have no relationship with WorldxChange - I mearly observe what goes here in the forums.
