Yeah, that's probably the way to go. Still a lot of money for someone who uses Internet occasionally. I wonder if there's any scope for a low cost package made for these low users, who want decent internet, but not that often, and not that much. Support costs might be the thing that makes it more expensive for that customer group though.

There is a fixed Chorus cost that means anything below the $60/month range for the RSP is really not sustainable even if the end user hardly uses it at all. Obviously a 4G based option that gets around this, but there are significant costs and spectrum limitations that apply to this as well. But if you look at costs over time, $76 for homeline+ADSL(60min/free local/40Gb)+mobile(100min/500Meg) is really not too bad.

Maybe I'll see if her laptop has a modem! Not so good for streaming, or windows updates, but cheap!

A small 4G fixed broadband package could be the go. Skinny's offering looks good, just reduce the bandwidth and the cost, but yeah overheads like billing, customer service, stay the same. Bandwidth is possibly the smallest component of the cost.

Just remember, with older people, keep it all simple unless you want a lot of stress in your life. Something complex that saves a few bucks but is not the always working, simple and stable will not make you any friends. Just my 2c again.

It does turn out to be cheaper to get individually. Package would be easier to manage, but oh well. I think Flip for home connection and 2 degrees prepay for mobile is the best option. No carrier provides a package that's worth bothering with. Thanks all.

Skinny is cheaper again and better quality IMO. They can also do automatic CC topups.
