To be honest you will probably get something second hand that would be pretty sweet for $150.

The router i got would be perfect its reliable as, but would be an absolute nightmare to set up unless you were a networking wizz so i wouldn't recommend it, but it is below $150.

I rekon you will easily find someone getting rid of an HG659B which has been on sparks network off trademe and will probably be in that price range.

Alternatively I saw a fritz box on the "offers and wanted section" which would be sufficent. You will need a 73xx or a 74xx. Maybe your current router is heating up and overheating, do you have it locked away in a cupboard? That router is probably fine for a 100/20 ufb connection. It shouldnt be rebooting.

EDIT: Spark sell the HG659b for $199 inc gst + a $15 delivery fee so $214 all up inc GST. http://www.spark.co.nz/shop/internet/modems/spark-hg659b/ and it will be perfectly fine for connections up to and and beyond 200/200 for a home user. And they will support it if you have issues.

Seen a Fritz Box 7390 on TM for less than $100. If they have the features you require I've found them to be reliable. I was in your position a few years ago.

For around $200 the TP-Link Archer C7 would be quite good.

It didnt initally support VLAN tagging - well, it did but wouldnt let you set VLAN 10 apparently- I think it wouldnt let you go below 16.

It does seem to support VLAN 10 now - which you will need for your ISP. Just make sure its the model with the VLAN ability.

I have one - without VLAN 10 ability because I am on bigpipe - it has very good coverage and am well pleased with it.

Has 3 x 2.5Ghz radios and 3 x 5Ghz radios. The 2.5 Ghz radios are built in and just the 5Ghz radios have external aerials.

I saw on a forum in fact that if you have the firmware that doesnt support VLAN 10 - you can email TP-link support and get a beta version to install.

What's the existing router? Make and model.

I have an HG659b from Spark that was prone to memory leaks, resulting in slowdowns and wifi dropping after about 36 hours. A re-boot fixed it.

I bought another router but most other routers don't support the VLAN tagging required to talk to the fibre ONT, so unless you get one that can, you're stuck with the current ISP router.....BUT.......you can (HG659b, anyway) put it into "bridge" mode and connect the second (new) router to the fibre network through the bridged router using PPPoE and the user / password (which isn't really needed but the fields can't be blank). The second router is then able to talk "fibre" because the bridged router is doing the VLAN tagging for it. But the second router is the one that gets the ISP IP address (over the bridge) and looks like the 'main' router.

Once I set mine up this way, I haven't had to restart the HG659b for over a week and my 200mbps / 200mbps connection is still crazy fast.

My second router is a D-Link "Taipan" - $399 at PB Tech....which proved to be worth it as my Samsung Galaxy S7 phone and my PCI-E (AC3200 wifi) desktop can both do the full 200mbps up and down and on the local LAN I can hit speeds of 700mbps between my desktop and my NAS via the Taipan.

But which other router you might get will depend on what other features you want: REALLY fast wifi? Media streaming locally? Gigabit ethernet? etc...

Also....in my experience...all the cheap routers are slow, unreliable and prone to memory leaks that drag them into SlowTown.

A Fritzbox 7390 will handle 100/20, not sure about 200/200.

But I know for a fact that you need a 7490 for max speed Gigabit internet (as I was in that position of having to upgrade from a 7390 to 7490 myself)
