I assume you define $500ish as unaffordable? If so you're not going to find anything any cheaper.

What benefit is 1Gbps going to offer you over 200Mbps? There are very, very, very few people who benefit from such a speed.

Not so much unaffordable, just unjustifiable for what I wanted it for, especially seeing it for as little as $119 outside of gigatown and I don't need the high SLA costs associated with those plans.

The SLA on these plans is no different to that of regular UFB. It's the CIR that's different, as this is a true 1000/1000 service compared to the (off the top of my head) 2.5/2.5 high priority CIR on the Gigatown connection and 1000/500 being an EIR only.

these days all chorus business UFB plans come with a 6 hour restore - also unfortunately it is only a 2.5M/2.5M CIR at the price point mentioned in this thread

I can't see why a 200/200 wouldn't work just fine. If you need to host something get a VPS and that would normally come with a 1gb connection plumbed into the hosting core.

It does work fine, It was only curiosity and would have been a nice to have and not a necessary to have.. any why not take it up if its available? :)

I don't need any paid for hosting as I host, from home, some non critical services for a few charities free of charge.

As mentioned earlier, looks like Auckland is quite there yet in terms of the cheaper gig options available to a few other smaller cities.

Thanks for the input all.

Cheers,

DT

Non BS2 products can come with more CIR if you want it in reasonable increments, you pay a lot more for said CIR as you'd expect.
