Is that something the DLM will be adjusting, the target SNR? Seems like it wants me on 9db, that's what it starts at, and that's what it gets after any resync. Might DLM target eventually target 6dB for me if my SNR wasn't all over the place?

Sensitive little buggers these VDSL modems. I was just tidying up the wires after the relocation, and found if the power brick for the router is too close to the bundle of phone cables then i loose 1dB of signal.

On the positive side, somehow in the tidy up i've gained another 500K down and 200K up. An hours work gainsa tidy kitchen shelf to look at, and a 12% jump in uplink.

9dB is the target margin by default for an 8b line, so thats exactly right.

A cleanup of the signal be it at the ETP or the other end, can be a massive result! glad to see you got such a jump :)

I didn't manage to make it to JayCar the other weekend so haven't tried the magnets yet. I did unplug all the cords except for the powercord (which has a built in magnet) and it didn't make a difference. Wondered if the HDMI and Audio cables might have been acting as transmitters. I moved the modem into the next room, only about 3 meters further away, but it's made a significant improvement. As part of the move i also moved the phone socket into the next room, so that't's also 3-4 meters of phone cord along the skirting board that is further away and picking up less interference.

I'm actually most interested to see the effect of attaching a ferrite to the phone line just before where it connects to the modem, whether it helps of hinders as some suggest.

You'll probably find you have at least one cable in your house with a detachable one you could salvage, just ensure you wrap it around and through.

Ok eventually found one and attached like so:

Unfortunately no dice. Still 10db when TV off and 7/8 with it on.

Found another 3 little ones on a MD player, so added a second to the line cable going to the modem, another where the phone wiring comes out of the VDSL splitter, and a 3rd to an audio cable coming out of the TV. No change.

Thanks for reporting back your findings, too bad it didn't help however good to know.

You can only try to distance and isolate the two appliances as much as you can.

Some plasma's actually come with extra ferrites in the box intended to be attached to all output cables of the TV (antenna, RCA etc) however I note you've tried disconnecting all extra cables and it had no effect.

Only other option I might try if I was desperate is to run a new shielded Cat5e/6 directly from the master filter to the modem (as far from the TV) and find somewhere to ground it along the way..
