OK

I asked around my neighbors which are on different ISP to do speed test at around 8pm and they seem to get similar speeds, between 10-20mbps on UFB 100.

ISPs tested are Slingshot, Spark and Trustpower. They all have the issues. My neighbor with Spark has also complained and no resolution to date.

I wonder if it affects the rest of the ISPs too, such as Vodafone, Orcon and 2degrees (still need to find neighbors with those ISP)

if your neighbour is on spark have him come on here and there are a couple of people he could PM to have them look into it for him, and that would be able to identify the issue as either chorus or ISP related

another neighbor on Vodafone also confirmed..slow speed between 7-11pm..jeez whats wrong with the connection. i think its chorus if majority isp having same issue.

not sure if my neighbors will come here to post, they are not into these forums and stuffs but they have complained to the ISP.

They all said they feel cheated when they paying for 100/20 but getting those crappy speed..

Is there any Trustpower representative on this forum..who can shed some light

I'm sure there must be tons of people who signed up to Trustpower lately, they've been doing a big door-to-door push.  I had to close the door on a guys face because he wouldn't take no for an answer when I wasn't interested.  Complained to Trustpower about that on Twitter.  But yeah, I'm sure they've signed up a fair few customers at least in Wellington because of the billboards/marketing/consolidation price.  I always had a gut feeling they weren't up to the task with their infrastructure though, this thread proves it.

There isn't any real logical explanation as to how 3 different ISP's can have issues in the same street unless all 3 have major backhaul issues out of Wellington. If that was the case we'd be hearing a lot more about this. There is not any way it could really be Chorus without it being a major wide scale issue that affects more than a single node.

It's the kind of fault that I almost don't believe unless I see it for myself

well all thos ISPs mentioned hav issues..in this area..ppl using them hav confirmed..2degrees and orcon are left to test

TP said its affecting 70 of their customers.. maybe number being small they dont bother. The guy with Spark has been regularly following up on his complain but they havnt done anything either..

just don't know what the issue is and should we be charged when not getting the proper speed

I think you'll find it will be a "best effort", as in no speed is guaranteed. They should be trying to fix it though.

I now wonder if the gpon port is oversubscribed.

The ISP typically buys a service with a 2.5mbit CIR and a 100mbit Peak

If the gpon OLT does 2gbit down, divided by 64 households (i cant remember if its 32 or 64 in the ufb spec) then that would mean a contention rate of 31mbits if everyone was downloading all at the same time. Highly unlikely to occur though unless someone like a school or business has purchased a higher CIR that happens to also be on that particular OLT at the exchange, meaning they have reserved capacity just for them. But of course there is nothing to fix as far as chorus is concerned because you are still getting 2.5mbits down.

Are those on Vodafone on fibre optic UFB or cable?

Like i said get him on here, the spark reps would likely get more traction than you would get through a call center

Chorus UFB has been 16 way splits for a number of years now (changed in YR3 deployment from memory).

Was originally 32, but some LFC's have changed to 16.
