Thanks for all the input - it seems that I may have been given just adsl for now, though i have definitely signed up for vdsl and paid for a vdsl package through voyager (cool free SONOS package).  Had I not bought the splitter I would not have known this as our previous adsl speeds for a download maxed out at about 440k, at least now I have 1000k, it may not sound much but we're rural ! Look forward to vdsld !

Your line wont do VDSL prettymuch sure of that.

As mentioned before though... Post your SPECTURM view from the fritzbox. reading the graphs will give us the best interpretation of how your line is looking.

plus i dont know how many if any ISP's would just upgrade you to VDSL

If a prequal says yes, An ISP will put the request through.

Chorus can then choose to deny it.

no im talking about an automatic upgrade with out the customer requesting it

Yep, stick to ADSL would be my best advice there.

Pretty clear distance trailoff.

not exactly the most clean line, possibly a few taps (Really need an end to end test and deeper details to confirm) in there but not a lot you can do on that front.
