Just dropped back from 100/20 to 30/10, and pleasantly surprised when my speedtest was 50/10.   Had a quick look at broadbandcompare and most of the ISPs are still advertising 30/10, will that be for simplicity due to other LFCs on different base plans?

I had previously read Chorus's offical press release from December 2016 saying they would be upgrading all residential 30Mbps to 50Mbps download speed to celebrate Chorus's fifth birthday.  We were connected to UFB a couple of months ago once available at home.  I opted for the "30/10" speed but when I tested it I was consistently getting 50/10.  I got all excited... till 24 hours later when it got dumped back to 30/10 which it has been ever since.

Is your 50/10 speed test consistent or did it only last 24 hours?

I haven't seen any informers about Chorus reversing this. Maybe your ISP is limiting you to the 30/10 you're paying for?

Ours is still listed at 30mbps. That's never changed.

I haven't seen any ISPs ever advertising 50/10 as their 'entry' plan.  I'm with NOW (Hawke's Bay) through the Chorus UFB network.  Having discussed it with their provisioning team I know they're chomping at the bit to offer it after I enquired and highlighted Chorus's press release at the time.  They recalled Chorus telling them about the upgrade last year then Chorus never followed it up and isn't available in Chorus's supplied portal.  None of the major ISPs were advertising that speed a couple of months ago when I did some research.

It is available on the Chorus portal. It shows as "Evolve 30-10-2.5-2.5 Residential". Instead of limiting the downstream to 30~Mbps they limit it to 50~Mbps.

Odd choice of naming convention, but it is what it is. It isn't uncommon for ISPs to limit speeds on their end for accounts they know should be only capable of X speed. I've seen it myself when I tested my router (with my VDSL user/pass) on a 100/20 UFB line. It was stuck at 30/20. Updated the user/pass in the router to those for the account the line was meant to have running on it and bam, 100/20.

Edit: Found the informer email. Also looks like it was implemented on Evolve 1: http://imgur.com/a/8PI3Z

i suspect a lot of it is to do with the fact that Chorus is the only LFC offering the upgrade to 50/10 where as the others (enable UFF etc). hence why you may not see it advertised on ISP's site, might make things more complicated in their back ends.

also some ISP's havent taken up this upgrade and still limit the speed on their end.
