There have been a couple of companies I know of that have had "interesting" runs in with the Disputes Tribunal for not following or getting their own T&C's correct.

The DT can be hit and miss. It can depend on the person you have.

Way back in History I was a faithful Trust Power customer who had been absorbed from a local power Co.  My family unsuspectingly afforded loyalty.  Stupid.

Trust Power rated me as a high user for years.  Totally my fault of course.  When challenged it was suggested that the extra I was being charged was contributing to the Rescue Helicopter so they were indeed a wonderful customer focused power company.  There could never be a justification for changing to any product from Trust Power.

A word in your ear:  Accept advice from anyone but do not necessarily act on it.

I am also considering this deal due to the fact that the house I am moving to already has fibre and I am looking to buy a TV.

Trustpower say I can get the 200/20 plan for $114 per month if I sign up to a 24 month plan and bundle power. I am currently with another energy supplier and it looks like TrustPower will be slightly cheaper for power and they will lock this rate for the 24 month period.

If I go with Spark for fibre, their 100 plan would be $104 per month. Their 200 plan would be $119 per month.

If I went with Vodafone, their 200 plan would be $120 a month.

The exit fee is pretty harsh though.

24 months can go pretty quickly. It does look to be a good deal, but peoples situations can change.

I just did the calculations.

I am currently with EnergyOnline. Based on my last bill, with TP I'd pay about $7 more for the month in power.

I pay $79/month for 100/20 with Bigpipe.

I could sign up with TP for 24 months on 100/20 for $99/month and get a Samsung FHD 40" TV. I figure that is about $800 worth of TV (just checked NL -  website $816 without negotiating).

24 x $20 plus 24 x $6 is $624, so a slight win there.

Intangibles - I like Bigpipe, I have a static IP (not CGNAT) connection with them, and can leave whenever I like. I'm not sure about Trustpower - how good is their internet offering? If it isn't up to scratch, but still 'performs' I have no way of getting out of the contract.

Also, If I was doing this, I'd want a much bigger TV - 55", and I do not want to pay $139 a month for my internet to get it (perfectly happy with 100/20, and if I wanted to pay $139, I'd get Bigpipe's superspeed for $129.

I'm speaking from experience when I say that Trustpower internet is OK for your "average" customer but still not great. I still say stick to the bigger providers for internet especially if you plan to use another router. I have 2 connections (BigPipe and Voyager) and did the pricing to get Trustpower internet however it came in much more expensive than Contact + Voyager for my parents.

There are both cheaper power and broadband options out there. Yes, you can get away with cheap power but for internet since it is normally a households main entertainment platform you're best to spend more or go with a good reliable provider.

So far, Trustpower have yet to sell me on their internet and the people I know who had it couldn't wait to leave.

Hence why I say. Go for the provider you need and don't get sucked in with the carrot.
